Ok so I'm thinking of putting a Swap together. I'd like to do it in an area where it would be accessible for people more northern or southern to get too. I'm kind of thinking something close, but not extacly off 99 or yeah, 99 might work. That way the Bay Area would also be very near.

Anyway, I need some input as to if anyone would even be interested and then some suggestions on areas and dates.

I know with the holidays coming up, this is a hecktic time, so maybe January or February?? That is unless there's enough people who would want to do it closer to the holidays. IDK

Anyone interested??

My husband wanted to raise a hog a year to butcher. I don't think I could do it. The kids would name it. I actually want to, but I wouldn't know what I was doing or who would do the deed.

I'd love to attend another swap! Can we do it in March or April instead? The further out the better the weather.

March might be good and that give us time to really plan and get the word out. I'll probably also put a ad on craigslist. Might as well make a few dollars of we can. We could swap and sell?

Absolutely! I'll want to do both by then.

Hopefully me too.

My LF Wellie, the AMs (lav, BBS, black) should be laying by then. And hopefully the SPPRs and FBCMs. I'll also have Games, Sumatras and Cubalayas and maybe the bantam wellies will start back up. I'll also have Olive Eggers and EEs. Plus I have quail, so with some luck, a lot of those. Oh I forgot about my lone Cuckoo Marans. I'm going to use my FBCM roo and work on Golden Cuckoos.

I'm just waiting for this moult to be over and for them all to be healthy enough to add lights. For now they get to rest.

You know Kim, I've been feeding my birds Game bird feed mixed in with 17% all purpose because my flock is so mixed. I get 75lbs of supreme game bird feed with omega's in it...all my birds have molted and begun laying again, before I did the 17% i was doing the Purina game bird for plummage and whatever but it was SO expensive only one molting right now is my little dud colombian wyandotte who doesn't lay eggs, but thinks she does, and molt usually is very quick with them now that they've been on this.

Thanks, everybody, for the congrats! SunnyDawn, I love that star throwin smiley!

Kim, I've had trash come up out of the ground in two places I've lived. One was a rental that we all swore was haunted. The other was this place. They buried their trash in Walmart bags, all over the property. It was working it's way out of the ground for a year!
You need to do lasagne beds for your garden. Much easier than digging!

Can you describe to me, what a swap is?

Kim

Mostly a swap is just an excuse to get together with other chicken folk and gab and eat! We usually do potluck and set aside an afternoon somewhere that allows chickens. We can sell, buy or swap chickens while we are there. The better advertised it is the better chance you have of selling chickens. Of course that means the more folks that bring chickens to sell the better turn out of outside folks interested in buying. March is a great time to do this cause a lot of folks are looking to buy new stock for their flocks at that time of year. Not that it isn't just as easy to advertise and sell your chickens without the get-together but then we wouldn't have an excuse to visit and stuff our faces.

I actually bought 30% grower last week. I mix it in with the 17% layer. It's a little more, but they're eatting less too, so that's good. I don't have any type of lights back there, so that has a whole lot to do with everything I think.

I dig up every yard in every house I move to. Crazy what you find that way. My next door neighbors have a ton of trash and the last time they had that much, they burried in about 6 ft in the ground. Well at least thats about how deep the hole was. I have garbage I need to find a way to haul of, but the fact that something could be toxic in the ground makes you feel a little shaken. I'm putting in a few raised beds and then doing a play area, the coop area, I floating deck and a Memorial garden for Bill with Poppies, Fpr Get Me Nots and Sweet Williams. I may not get to all of it, but I'm working on it.
