CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Yes I did Jeremy. We are lucky to have one (Turlock) about 20 min from our house. This is kinda a play by play of what happened:

I posted this on Monday on the Facebook board:
Help! I worm every 4 months and I was starting the rounds this morning. This afternoon my rooster "barred" looked sick. I removed him so I could watch him better. I went out to check on him and he had 2 very watery poops with 2 long white worms! I have never seen any worms in the poop so this is new to me. Is this why he is looking so sick? Can Wazine 17 work that quickly?

He died that night. I posted this on Tuesday afternoon. (oh and I had Barred at the lab at 9 a.m. and they called about 4:00 p.m.)
I just talked to the poultry lab. They said he did have evidence of parasites but he also had a abnormal amount of fiber in his crop that was not breaking down. The guy at the lab said to worm at least 4 times a year. He said this area is bad for parasites. He didn't know why his crop was like that and asked what I feed and I told him I feed King feed. He was a little stumped. Anyway I am serious about downsizing. I think I'm only going to focus on my bantam polish. This spring I might be selling and giving away some birds. Tonight was sad going into the coup and him not "talking" to me before I closed the door. I wish I had a hard heart and didn't get attached.

The show secretary for the Stockton show is Anthony Rose. If he can't help you with sale info I'm sure he will know who to call. His number is 209-998-7762

So sorry Sarah. I know how attached you & the girls are to your animals. I am sure he was well cared for. Did he free range? Do you have pasture he grazed on? I don't know how that happens.

Yes, he was part of the flock that free ranges. There is a bunch of grass here but I have never seen him eat it. Even tho he was the largest bird we had, he was the low man on the totem poll. I wonder if he didn't get enough to eat and started eating grass that made him sick. I am also wondering if the feed (King) has a lot of fiber in it? I don't know. The downside of treating all our birds like pets is when they die, it's hard on everyone. I think this spring I am only going to breed my polish, and then keep a small flock of free range hens for eggs. I am thinking about selling my Cochins.

Oh Sarah I am so sorry! He was such a beautiful bird and that pic with your daughter is just precious!!!

Oh Sarah, I'm so sorry. Kind of wondering if this is why I had lost a few roos a few months ago. I liked the taller grasses.

You mentioned that you might have room for Lunch and Dinner. They're feathering in like pullets. Nothing at all like cockerels, so if you'd like them, maybe it would help the girls feel a little better. I'd really like to keep them, but I have some things going on and I don't really have the time to baby them like I want to. Mayeb you can find a roo later and I can get some hatching eggs if you get any. Or not. LOL Anyway, they are really cute, so let me know.

Karen that's always been my problem. I'd have things sold before they were even finished. Bill was a good salesman for me. I'd be working on something at home and he'd tell the ladies at the hospital and then call and have me email pics. I have very few things I have ever made. I'd start to make something for me and end up being talked out of it. I made a little money last month doing feather extentions and I've decided that you can never have too many roos. LOL That will change later on, but for now it's nice. Just that so many people can sell for less than I do with things like earrings and hair items (not the extentions) but when I get regalia orders, which I haven't since Bill died, I make pretty good money selling anything with a feather. Every 5-10 years feathers make it back into the fashion circle.

Sunny why did you have to move???? My girls and a bunch of the grandkids are headed to Reno next week. Makayla has never seen snow and the teenagers are all bugging everyone about it too, so we're going on a snow trip.

We are just 30 mins out of town. You can still visit or call and we will come into town for dinner. There is no snow right now though! We are having a very dry December! The ski resorts are making snow since it is plenty cold enough. BRRRRR Everyonr is complaining about the cold this year. Apparently when we have clouds (that often means snow too) we have warmer temps. Tonight it is supposed to be 3 degrees here and it is as clear as a bell.

NOOOOO! Looks like I need to send my daughter a text then. I tell ya, just tryihng to organize this trip is making her nuts.

Ok I know this is dorky but I love christmas lights and I got some solar fairy lights, as well as the normal multi colored things we strung on the house, and Aubrey and I strung them on this huge sagebrush plant across from the house. I love the way they look!

The glow on the right is from the house lights which are kinda washing them out on that side.
