CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Kim, I am sorry Jason is not doing well & Sunny I hope your husband's test come up clear. It makes it much more difficult to have a good time when your mind is elsewhere worried about someone you care about. Try to have fun with this great opportunity to visit with each other. I know what you mean about having people to "chicken talk" with. My family is so not "into" it........LOL I get alittle excited when "chicken lovers" come by. I have a Craigslist ad in right now so I have been getting "chicken company".....LOL

Kim I am so sorry to hear that Jason is not doing well!!! Of course Olivia wants to stay close to him now. Wishes for lots of healing energy are going his way right now. This is a common problem after this kind of surgery. We take for granted being able to swallow and breathe easily but we often move the jaw for these simple functions. It can be hard to just clear your throat or swallow when the jaw is wired shut. The panic at first can also add to the breathing problems. I so hope it gets better for him quickly!

Thank you Karen for the good wishes! I appreciate that very much.

I am also a "foodie". Love to cook and bake and also loooove to eat! I'm picky about what I eat so if I weren't a good cook I'd be downright thin! But I'm not complaining. As long as I'm healthy, I'm happy, and so far so good.

Capay Kim I just read back and realized you lost your poor little lamb! Oh that is just terrible! So sorry!

So sorry to hear about your lamb. I made Bavarian Chocolate for Christmas desert--it's kind of like Chocolate Mousse.

Here are a couple of baby pictures. I hope they cheer you up!

My only Marans is in front here. The others are EE's

Another group shot. What will the one with the reddish brown head look like?

Kim, when will you have SG Dorking eggs for hatching? I am ready when you have them; if you still want me to hatch some for you.

Ron

Awwww, so cute Ron!!! Kim is still here in Reno but I'm sure she'll be back on by late tomorrow or early Friday. DH and I had dinner with her tonight and she is just as funny as I remember from the last couple of visits. Good looking family Kim!!!

And if Bavarian chocolate is anything like Bavarian cream then it is at least 20 times better than chocolate mousse!

Didn't know Kim from Modesto had Dorkings. If so we need to talk. I could use a few more. I thought it was Capa Kim.....LOL Either way I will check out what I end up with to see if I need more. I am trying to get down to a manageable number so I can get to know these guys/gals (chickens) better......LOL. My special ones I think I have under control. It's all those dang eggs I hatched (you do all know I am a hatchoholic right??) that I can't keep track of......LOL

Thanks everyone. There seems to be some Kim confusion.

To the other Kim... I hope that the New Year brings health to you and your entire family.
Ron, Bavarian Chocolate sounds even better than fudge... yummmm. Your chicks are cute! Such a mixed group, wonder how they will mature?

I am the one with Dorkings and no incubator. So, I'm always trying to talk people into hatching chicks for me. The hens are all together in the mobile coop and not really laying much yet. When they do start laying better, I have to separate them into breeding pens and wait a bit to have pure sired eggs. So, it's going to be a while, if that's ok. It's still cold to be raising chicks, too. My 5 wk. old Dellies are in the open air coop and I still have a heat lamp on them at night. I think the cause of death for the lamb was the cold but am still waiting for the results from UCD.

Have a wonderful day, everyone.

Somebody in Fresno just contacted me, wanting Dorkings, and I told him to order from McMurray. He only needs a few, so maybe he would split an order with you?

Thanks Kim,
I am still waiting to see exactly what I end up with when everyone is grown out. I have been selling alot of my extra chickens to get a handle on the feed bill but I do want to keep the Dorking I think.
I will try to take a picture of the next Dellie earrings I make. They seem to disappear as quickly as I get them made. Black & white must really be popular......LOL

I was worried that there might be a bit of Kim confusion...

SunnyDawn: I bought the hatching eggs from a Breeder in Elvirta(Towards the Sac River from Roseville). She hatches the chicks sold at the Elvirta Feed Store. I picked the eggs up after work and was allowed to pick the ones I wanted from a tilted flat of eggs. I wanted 6 Marans and si6 Easter Eggers, but there were only 4 Marans. The Rest were EE's, so I picked 8. There were letter and number combinations on the eggs, so I picked up eggs from thee different breeding groups. It looks like I have two buff ones, with one of them looking like a buff blue wheaten. two of them look like chip monks with owl faces and one of them has a reddish brown head with a brown body. The eggs they hatched from were green to Olive with a teal blue one.

Bavarian Chocolate is really good! Here is the recipe:

Blender Chocolate Bavarian

2 Envelopes Gelatin 2 eggs
½ cup cold Milk 1/3 cup sugar
1 package (12 oz) Semi- 2 tablespoons light rum(one tsp vanilla for alcohol free)
Sweet Chocolate Pieces 1 cup ice cubes or crushed ice
1 cup hot milk Whipped Cream (optional)
1 Cup heavy cream

Note: If not eating the right after making, use one envelope of Gelatin. I always make it with one)

Sprinkle gelatin over cold milk in 5-cup blender; let stand until gelatin granules are moistened(alt. method: 1/2 C mild in a 2/3 C measuring cup to moisten then add to blender): Chocolate will be grainy if you are not careful here. Add chocolate (reserve some for garnish if desired) and hot milk. Cover and whirl at low speed until chocolate melts and gelatin dissolves, about 2 minutes. Stop blender. Add cream eggs sugar and rum; cover and whirl at high speed until well mixed. With blender still running, remove center cap of lid and add ice cubes one at a time; whirl until ice melts. Pour at once into individual dessert dishes; chill until set, about ½ hour. Garnish with dollops of whipped cream and a few chocolate pieces. Makes 8-10 servings. Note if made ahead, reduce gelatin to 1 envelope. Will take about 3 hours to set.

Kim from Capay: I figured the Dorking eggs would not be ready yet. Let me know when. I picked up a Chuck roast from Manas Ranch Meats this week--Best Pot roast in years.
