CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I know everyone is so excited about the stockton show, but is anyone coming to the show in Fresno on Feb 18th? I can at least try to go to that one for half a day, I have to work at 230.

It's to far.

I'm kinda close in OC. Let me know what you think of Wes's. I'd be willing to travel some if it's a good place.

I went there once but he didn't have any chicks yet. But he does seem to know quite a bit about chickens. Right now I think he only has grown silkies (did I spell that right?). He told me and my mum to call him around Jan 30th to see if he can place an order for us. My friend got her Chickens there and she likes it. She told me to get everything he says to get, so I will.

Kim,
I just set a flat of quail eggs myself. Mostly Jumbo Browns but some A & M Texas whites. I would be interested in your Bev Davis FBCM chicks. I didn't think you had the breeders left to hatch them. I got a nice darker blue/green eggs from the B/B/S Ams pen & Sophie gave me an egg too so I have a misc bunchof eggs going but mostly Buff English Orps. I will consider this a maiden test batch...... for this season.
I could kick myself right now. I stopped at JS West yesterday for Gamebird grower and they had a ton of Modern Games from the Holister show. I was going to take Makayla back before they closed and didn't get there till noon today. All the pullets and hens were gone

So she does have another birchen cockerel. They hadn't been trimmed yet, but I know where I can have that done. I think they need to be about a year old? Is that right? I need to get a couple of hens at the show for her. Anyway they have lots of cockerels there if anyone is interested. We bought a birchen, but they allso nave red browns that are gorgeous! Wish I had had the $40 for a pair of OEGBs. I have a hen and no roo and they are so pretty.

I still have FBCMxEE chicks if someone wants some. Might be 4 out there. They all look like pullets. I have Olive Eggs in the bators and I also have quail and more Marans that will be hatching starting the 29? I think. Lots of Bev Davis FBCMs and some blue and blue coppers. I have Sunny on the list for FBCMs, so depending how many hatch

I may have some for sale soon.

OK I've been trying and trying to get Silkied AMs from Alicefelldown for a long time. I was trying to get a ride for a trio up here and then with getting birds stolen and killed, I was a little nervous about it till I had things finished here. Sooooo, I have eggs coming from her last birds. The same one's I wanted to buy and had entended too. This will work, cause I will be able to keep them in brooders and they'll have a safe place to go when they grow out.

Karen I still need that cockerel from you to get eggs from my Davis hens. These are all imports since I didn't have him and my girls are still not laying. LOL Those bad girls. I still have 4 of my originals. Hopefully I'll be able to get some chicks this year since I have one that lays a so so egg and still have a couple of my really dark layers. I have one though who's eggs are hard to hatch because they are almost round. Hard to figure out top from bottom.

I've had a lot of personal things going on and haven't gotten anything finished out back and not sure when I will. I feel like I have zero energy these days and things out there seem to just look worse all the time. I'm so exhausted these days and I can't believe how far behind I am. I think I need to run away and sleep in a hut on a beach somewhere. Anyone else feel like they've been beat uo? Man I sure do. I think I'm going to my daughter's today to watch the playoffs and I bet when I stretch out in the floor I pass out and miss the whole thing.

A beach hut sounds good to me right now!

I'm in Sacramento!

I'm sorry if it has been posted earlier but this work computer is too slow for me to skim so many posts.
Is there a meet up or get together for duck/chicken/geese owned people in Sac coming up?

Kim I sent you a PM. If any of these free rangers are still Bev Davis you are welcomed to him.
My first 3 eggs from the "chosen" breeding pen I am really happy with. The darkest I have had so far & roundy too. They are in the incubator but I am keeping the next ones to try to take to Stockton. Carrie is encouraging me to support the club & breed by putting some in the egg show. She said you can enter them the day of. They don't have tobe pre entered.
I called around to a couple of health food stores the other day to see what they charged for quail eggs but didn't find any local ones that carried them. I had to hold back a flat of them to put in the incubator. They get eaten as fast as they are laid around here. I am doing a "Chicken Talk"for a local woman's group on Feb 7th & I thought it would be fun to make pickled eggs to pass out as Hor Du Vors (sp) for the ladies. How many people do you know that have eaten quail eggs????? LOL I gave my cousin a dozen to try & she & her husband boiled them up & loved them. I haven't processed any of the quails themselves to eat yet but the eggs sure go fast. They only take 3 days to pickle verses 3 weeks for chicken eggs & they are so darn cute in salads as your own personal little hard boiled egg like a cherry tomato.
