CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Ha ha!!! That's a fact! All these critters have me trained well. Today I was sharing my strawberries with them! They all look at me with that adorable, big eyed, curious look, like "what is that she's eating?". You know the look. The one where they cock their head to the side? Next thing I know they've got a bunch of my strawberries! Don't act like it's just me. I heard the comment about the broccoli!

I hope the pain eases up soon!

Greens my favorite colo, so had to be broccoli. They are strawberries for you?? Little traders, I had to pull those out of the brooder cause they wouldn't touch them. Blueberries too! WTH?

But yeah the strawberries are almost all gone. I just checked. Weird my old flock hated strawberries too. Have no idea why. Having brussel sprouts with dinner so I might share a few of those with them tomorrow. I don't like to give too many treats at first, they need the vitamins in the feed but I did mix the feed with water for them and they like that a lot. The big birds are probably jealous now. I better save some treats for them.

Oh reminds me i have asparagus! I'm the only one who eats it so I may just go steam some for a snack. For me that is.

My chicks didn'tlike strawberries & I was really surprised. Who couldn't like strawberries???? They go bonkers over meal worms though.....LOL
Went to Knights Ferry today & a chicken Lovin friend there helped me bathe a chicken for the first time. Poor thing.she's a big blue Orpington & didn't know what to think of all that but I think overall she did well. Hate to admit it but she is now on clean paper in a dog carrier in my frontroom. I didn't want her to get chilled after being wet. She may be totally wrong but she is going to the Fresno show & we will just find out......LOL. I read the SOP & at least I don't she has any DQs.

Here's hoping! Karen needs some purdy ribbons!

I just pulled some of the grass that overtook my future flower bed and took it all our back and passed it around. Since I was working at turning the whole yard back there, they haven't had any to scratch in. They did however scratch every single thing I planted back there. I used Makayla's wagon to get it all back there and there were birds taking rides and grabbing grass. LOL That they'll eat. Dumb birds.

Oh I love asparagus. There are only about 5 veggies I will eat and 3 have been mentioned today on this thread. OK I must be tired the dumbest things strike me as funny when I'm tired. There were no left over brussel sprouts from dinner though. So the chickies get none. Steve and I hogged them all for ourselves. Yum they were good!

Karen I hope your Orp does well. She would do well at the Reno show but they don't get a lot of quality birds at that show so when one does show up...

I have never given my birds pomegranates but they are pretty expensive up here. We can't grow them locally they need more warmth (a longer season) than we get up here. Sigh, the things I took for granted when I lived in Cali.

Yea I have to give bags of them away just so they don't rot. Maybe next year someone will be going that way and I'll send you some.

My chickens do eat Pomagrantes.......right off the tree. The free ranging free loaders which are all my extra cockerels turned out to grow out to eat or take to the auction jump up & get the low growing ones. My daughter makes jelly or I would give all of them that we don't eat to the chickens. That tree is a miracle. We planted it over 32 years ago when we bought this place & it fruited almost immediately & has never stopped. It is a Simply Wonderful & I highly recommend it to anyone wanting them.
Thanks for the good wishes ladies but I have no expectations for placing at Fresno since I Sooooooooooo don't know what I am doing.....LOL Hopefully my eggs will do well. I have alot this time. I didn't put the Blue Copper eggs in the bowl but they are decent too. I have worked on egg color and have come up 2 #s so far.
