CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

That's great! I was in Ag & FFA but they never taught us that math.

LOVE the hatch cam. I'll be checking back to see how the "popcorn" is coming along...

I have blue marans, brabanters and silver penciled hatching today...I can't wait to get home and see how many fluffies await me...

Four new chicks! One is from the Game eggs my neighbor wanted me to hatch. Out of 7 I tossed 2 that were clear and all but this little guy stopped early or late in the game. This one however isn't doing very well. The ones from my own flock are puffy and chubby. I hate to take him one really awful looking chick.

OK I know we needed rain, but...........COME ON! We;ve even had tornado watches. We're the quake state for goodness sake. I hate tornados!

Congrats on the babies that hatched! Yea taking him one lone chick would be terrible even if he were healthy. Chicks don't do well alone. Poor little guy!

Hey Kim if your new chicks are lonely come get a few of mine to raise with them. I am over run with chicks & more hatching tomorrow. I honestly think that 6 hour+ power outage slowed things down. The hatch that was due then took 3 days to finish. That's kind of unusual although not uneard of.
I am going to run some ads on Craigslist today. My incubators are full and so are the brooders. I am such a nut............I wonder if you can just hatch chicks for a living???????? LOL Thats the fun part for me........LOL
I think I have decided to sell all the specialty quail I ordered from Colorado, the Valley , The Mountain, maybe I will keep the pair of Popcorn just for fun.................Like I need another thing to do.........I just am so impulsive & get caught up in the moment all the time. You would think at my age I would have learned to control my impulses............LOL. NOT SO.....it is all about the excitement.!!!!!!!! LOL

Need source for middle California Single Comb Red Large Fowl. Does anyone raise Rhode Island Reds in California any more or just the hatchery kind? Bob

Karen, I'm good. Some of mine hatched and he also has a broodie that hatched out 8.

My Slver Phoenix eggs haven't been hatching for me and I don't know where the eggs came from, but I have a hen sitting on 7! There hasn't been one in 3 days and now 7? I only have 2 hens. Anyway I'm going to let her be a broodie. I may not get many now, but even some would be great. Just can't figure out where those eggs were unless she buried them in there. They have a covered litter box as a nesting box and I did fill it pretty good so it wouldn't have any areas uncovered.

I think I'm going to put some Lav AMs and FBCMs under Fat Chick. She's really determined to hatch something.

I have a Silky that hides her eggs under the straw & I have to dig them out but they are nice & clean that way.............LOL I let all the white Silkies go broody & that's what they do too. They all go broody together 3 at a time in the nest box all on top of each other & then they take turns. I think there is one main mama that never leaves but she allows the others to come & go to join her.
Tried to place a Craigslist ad for some of these dozens of chicks this morning but somehow lost the whole thing pictures & all so have to start all over again. I have ladies coming today for some quail & another for some of the $10 young laying hens I put on Craigslist. Slow but sure I am cutting back. I ran into Flyfishunggal at Safeway today & she wants the Valley quail so I told her I would save them for her. Lucky her........her husband was given a tent trailer that he said will make an instant temporary coop for her with minor remodeling..........LOL Gotta love those recyling efforts.
