CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I completely agree! There are quite a few of us who would love to get together to talk chickens. I would gladly help organize something if we can gauge the interest.
Janice in Delhi said we can have a meetup in her Party Barn in the fall. She is Flyfishing gal. I know both Jules know her. We all went to Walt's class. I will look & see if I have her phone # & see if we can start planning.

Aw, I'm sorry.

Make sure it really is a rooster, my pullet tried crowing for a few days, then laid her first egg..
I have a hard time telling who is a roo or not sometimes......................LOL. I too had a pullet that crowed & laid eggs......LOL If I am sure they are roos I wait for them to get big enough to fend for themselves without getting gandged up on & turn them loose to free range with my free ranging free loaders until they get fully grown & then off to the auction with them. If you take them too young you get nothing for them. I processed a few to prove to myself I can still do it after so many years but mostly it's just off to the auction with them.
Haven't been hatching much lately butout popped some Salmon Favs this morning.

I totally forgot about Janice's offer. That would be a great location.

And Fall would be so much cooler than our hot summers. Wish I had been able to go to Walt's class

Were they in an incubator or under a Broody?

I have no problem telling the roos from the hens with the Cream Legbars I hatched. That white spot really sets off the roosters. I have 16 Rooster at my house. Well maybe 17. The one Heritage RIR that hatched is only 2 weeks old and RIRs don;t have that spot on them like the Cream Legbars.

OMG I need earplugs! I know for sure one of the 4 quail I hatched out on sunday is a roo. He hasn't shut up all day. They have food, water, heat, no heat. He just stands in the middle of the tub peeping his lungs out. I told Dakotah since they were born on his birthday he could eat any one he wanted. He was holding the smallest at the time and covered it's head and says not to say that. Then he puts it away and comes back and says "OK say it now!" So tonight the chick it's extra loud and echoing through the house. We BBQ'd tonight and that poor thing almost ended up on a skewer. He wouldn't have been a mouthful, but I think he was going to be an appetizer. OMG it's at it again! I think it likes to hear it's own voice.

I'm mentally exhausted thinking about thias weekend. Friday morning Makayla has her kindergarten graduation. Then at 6pm my grand daughter Monica graduates from high school. Saturday morning my grandson Donovan (Monica's brother) graduates from junior high. June 9th my grand daughter Khamaria graduates from junior high too and I get to make 90 cupcakes with Bear's on them. Tired just thinking about it. Didn't even have a weekend to give Dakotah a birthday party and he's going to his dad's on friday for the summer so he can work his summer job. I just made myself so tired I think I may actually sleep tonight. LOL I'll worry about the work on my car next week. I don't have 2 days in a row to leave it at the shop.

You have to do something for Dakotah's 16th b-day! Time to rally the older kids and let them put something together!
Oldest has 7 kids and 2 jobs and going through 2 graduations and a big grad party next weekend, second one is in ??????London? 3rd is house hunting and getting things things ready for grand daughter's graduation, transfering schools, house hunting and lives in Brentwood and works in Alameda until after 6pm most days. I just don't have any energy anymore, so I needed to be more organized, but these days it's good when I get things done one day at a time. Last year and the year before we did something belated in Aug when he got back home. He did get to go to the movies with a friend on his birthday, so they could see Battleship. He was happy with that, but all the other kids have parties and he's usually late for the ball. We'll figure something out. If he'd just stay for a week we'd be good, but he's gung ho on going out to the Bay, so it's on him now.

OK I need either a sitter for Kayla when I go for feed or someone to talk sense into me when I fold and get carried away. Cute little thing though.

Well, I didn't hear anything yesterday or this morning so maybe I was imagining things lol. I have two pullets that are bigger than him so he is 3rd on the pecking order right now. I think he is about 8 weeks old.
