CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Here's a decent video on the black soldier fly.

and a good write-up on the benefits

http://blacksoldierflyblog.com/black-soldier-fly-white-magic/

The video says you can feed them veggies but really they can eat almost anything. Veggies, bird poo, mammal poo, spoiled feed, there's not a lot they'll ignore.
Eggs are easy to ship, too, if people need them. You need a special place to put them so they will crawl out ( Im not going to try and explain, ill bosh it) but if you do that and don't attract flies, we can send some egg clustes to start you off.
BUG PUSHERS UNITE!

Kim, it was great finally meeting you, it was such a nice party - Karen outdid herself. I have a bunch of Splash Sumatras in various ages and stages. If you ever need more, just let me know. I love to come up to visit Karen every chance I get so I could bring birds along for the ride too

I was nice to meet you too and yes Karen outdid herself for sure. The kids all seemed to have a great time in the pool. We need to move in on the poor woman again sometime, but I know she gets really worn down, but has so much to give when it comes to her interests. She's an amazing woman.

I didn't know you have Sumatras! I would have had you bring me a couple, although I got such a great price with these that I couldn't pass them up. I've been looking for that Silver Pheonix roo, so that's what's been on my mind and my Sumatra completely became a blank until these came along. I may have to see what I have here first and maybe get a couple of pullets or hens from you sometime in the near future.

OMG! I want Peas again. I just need so much more room for them. I can't wait to see them grown, but they sure are cute as babies.
I already need to take more pics. They have grown and you can clearly see their little crests coming in.
Oh boy Sunny! I can't wait to see all of your pictures!

I am so curious how the chicks turned out that you got from me

LOVE those peachick babies

Bet those are going to be beautiful!!
Too tired to run into town today. Tried to post them from Fort Bragg this weekend but when I got on the whole family decided they needed to check their email from my computer and by the time I got back on my modem had died (wireless, so battery powered). Then when we got to the Inn I found out DH had left the charger at home. I'm starting to feel like the universe is trying to tell me something. lol
Such elegant chicks! Can't wait to see the rest.

I had a guy who bought hatching eggs from me call and say he had 2 Polish roos from those eggs and he wanted to know if I'd take them back. Sunny, they're beautiful WCB! You didn't get any good WCB did you? So far I didn't either. I'm so tempted to take them. One has an extra beautiful crest. I actually swore it was a girl until I saw the saddle feathers. If anyone's interested, I think he would be a great LF WCB prospect.
I'm not ready to take on any new ones right now. I love the girls I hatched from you. Especially the splash! They're just gorgeous!
OK, so you've all probably noticed I haven't updated the first post or reposted on another page. I have however been seeking help to take care of the problem. I a platinum member which gives me 15 days worth of edits. From what Nifty says, this was supposed to be the case before, so during other repairs to the site it was kixed. Darn it! LOL

So although the pain of having to click on another page, the info will still be there and available. I'll be able to edit at will and can even make editing helpp available through other members. So many people aren't aware that you can right click and open a new tab or window and don't like to be bothered with clicking back and forth in the same one, so maybe we can all teach them how it's done.

I hope everyone like the page idea. Best I can do. It should work just fine. Trust me I haven't been happy about this being a problem, but I'm good with the page idea and it's easier to be able to edit myself, than having to bother a mod and having to copy and paste every single time I even have to add a name to the list, let alone, shows or breeder info.

Anyway.........I'm working on it. Might even add pics and charts and whatever if I get creative. LOL
I have to do the same thing for the NV thread. So busy right now though with so many babies!
So Sunny, I guess step one of how to post a pic on BYC needs to be changed to "get in your car and drive to town..."
ROTFL!

I am so upset! I have been told by TWO different animal control officers that they WOULD catch the dog that killed our chicken and hurt Sebastian. The 1st officer even said without any problem that dog will be marked as "dangerous" and removed from the property. I called to follow up and a supervisor and they just told me they have no plans to remove the dog. They aren't even going to follow up that the other dog is chained to a tree stump with no shade because basically they are too busy! According to the report both dogs are not licensed or have shots. I can't believe I have mislead by AC officers for this long. How would they like to be chained to a stump in 105 degree weather with no shade!
On a brighter note the "love birds" are amazing! I love watching them walk around the yard together. I really want babies!

So sorry you are having to fight so hard for nothing. :(
Very cool pics though!
And you guys need to share the information for the black soldier flies here. We all wanted ot hear more yesterday, but written info would be so helpful to many on here. Give us some details of how this works.

I just came back to finish this because I ran to see if I had more beetle yet. How bad is that? LOL

If you all remember, my Sumatra roo has been missing for a months now. Well I got a little carried away today and I now have 1 Splash and at least one each of blue and black. Not sure about the youngest ones yet, but I'm thinking they are all cockerels. I also added a pretty blue pullet. So excited I will be able to have BBS Sumatras now. Once I have them grown out a bit I'll know who I keep and who I sell, but Sumatras have been one of my top favorite breeds for a long time, so I'm happy.
Congrats!

Adding my THANK YOU SEW N GROW to everyone else's - yesterday was so much fun! Good company, good food, good weather, and oh, that fabulous pool!!! I really enjoyed meeting those of you who I have chatted with on the boards but never met in person, and catching up with those who I have met before.

Theresa, I hope you got the little cochin trio home in one piece, and didn't have to stop for cuddles too many times on the way home! I expect lots of pictures of them as they grow up.

Karen, I wore my new earrings today and got tons of compliments - thanks again for making them!

OK, time to go check on the new babies - I hatched bantam langshans, a few Japanese bantams, and a few dwarfs over the weekend. Have a great night everyone, and those of you up in fire country - stay safe!

Boy, these fires are crazy. Do we have anyone in danger from the Ponderosa fire? My son-in-law is a firefighter on that fire. I'm so worried for those people.....it's only been 4 years since my town was in the same situation and I can't stop worrying about everyone involved.

I was trying to respond to the message looking for new home for american buff geese. I am interested and i live in southern california any info or owners contact would be appreciated. thanks Mike
