The Cream Legbar eggs that I hatched were nice but not very large. They might have been pullet eggs though. The CLs do not do well in the heat and the Cockerel was very noisy. They now live with Chiquita in San Jose. The Bluest egg, bluer than the CLs, that I have from my hens, come from my Dorking x Buff Ameraucana EE that I hatched. She lays a very nicely shaped egg too.

Collonca might be the breed. It did start with a C. EO Basque are supposed to lay a pink to purple egg too sometimes. So far, all of mine have been brown. Purple eggs would be very cool.

weird thing with a legbar is they are part leghorn which I thought took the heat well.

I don't really care about the egg size, heck we eat our serama pullet and quail eggs....................can you say "12 eggs for breakfast, my dear?"

I just thought I'd like to mess around with the egg color. The CL eggs I hatched just made me feel good looking at them (I'll admit to having fondled them before adding them to the incubator

) I read about people having trouble with their CL in the heat. Mine came through with no issue, but they were still youngsters, so I guess I'll have to see how they do next summer as adults.

I do want to stay away from mixes in introducing the blue shell gene. I want to control the overlay color and just use this JG I have that is laying a VERY pink/almost lavendar colored egg to start with. Her egg just stands out next to my assorted brown eggs. Also, I'd rather stay with the single comb, I just like the way they look.

I do have an extra blue layer (a true Araucana that is clean faced and tailed - it happens now and then). She is a beautiful blue mottled/splash pullet. She's going to live with my BC Marans that are laying VERY dark eggs. I want some beautiful OEers!

Who knows, 9 mos or so from now we'll see what happens. It's just to mess with anyway and will end up in the egg flock. So, no matter what color they produce they can fit in,

Somewhere down the line my goal is a purple chicken with a purple egg. I'm working on deepening the colors now. Hopefully something will go.

I have a bird that I thought was a blue Orp a while back. Her name is fat chick. Someone suggested she may be a blue Marans, and then I remembered that she was one of my survivors of cat attacks and I had only hatched out very dark brown eggs and I got them all from the Stockton show. Very dark eggs! Her eggs are not dark, but they would be great in the Lav Egg project and I want a big bird with a big egg. I hadn't seen any of her eggs for a while. Yesterday I was working on starting 2 new mini hoop coops and I decided I should also work on trying to get rid of 2 years growth on a fruitless mulberry that had been remove by the owners. They left a small stump. After Bill died, I just couldn't do things for sooooooo long, that when it started sending up shoots I figured I'd let it grow just a bit for shade. Well it's taking over. I have low areas that if I could saw the darn things I was going to use as roosts. Don't know if that will ever happen, I just can't saw them off.

OK so while I was cutting back branches I got hit with a frome from the palm out there. I cringed when we were looking at this place and I saw that thing. It was tiny and we were supposed to be moving into our own home in a few short month, so I wasn't worried about it. I've been here 2 1/2 years. That thing is growing. So I started wacking off fromes and there were lots of low ones that were already brown and should have been off a long time ago, but they were hiden by the mulberry. I'm cutting and after about 5 I see Fat Chick under some on the other side. I was afraid at first that I had found her dead. She didn't move a muscle. After I got some cut back enough from the sides, I went around and lifted the fromes covering her. I heard the growl and that just confirmed is was a nest and she was alive. I could see 2 eggs laying on the 2 brown fromes that were laying on the ground and that I almost cut off. A while later, still cutting those things off I hear a grumpy hen at the feeder and look over to see Fat Chick. I ran around to count eggs and someone, probably a Game has laid 2 white eggs there. The others were all Fat Chick's eggs. 13 of them!!! I surprised that a Game hen hasn't taken over that nest, but Fat Chick seems to be doing a really good job. Thing is I know she's been out with the FBCM roos, so no chance that they are able to be used for the lave egg project. My broodies haven't done so well this year. I had 2 Games and 1 OEGB that had chicks hatch and live. Nothing from any of the other broodies made it. I hope my girl does a good job. I love my Fat Chick. She's the one who when I was working in the yard, a cat came in and grabbed her. I had lost the first time and her hatch 36 chicks to a cat. I have 2 birds left from that one. The next hatch a cat got was 140 chicks for an order and I haven't been able to get a hatch like that since. Anyway I grabbed the cat, grabbed Fat Chick and pulled her out of the cats mouth. He neck was shredded. I thought she was going to die, but she's a strong bird and she's still here, minus any feathers where that long strip of a scar is. Can you tell I really love this bird? LOL

Good News for you! Bear Valley Springs is not a City. It has an Association and this is what it says:

SECTION 1903. FARM ANIMALS
Except for cattle, the following animals are permitted on lots of one acre or more, subject to the specified limitations:
(a) Poultry and pigeons are limited to an aggregate of ten and must not be allowed to roam or fly outside their enclosures.
(b) Rabbits are limited to ten.
(c) Goats, sheep and alpacas are limited to four per acre. (Amended 4/10/11)
(d) Horses, mules and donkeys are limited to four per acre in any combination but not to exceed a total aggregate of four animals per acre (in conjunction with those animals cover in Section 1903). Effective July 1, 1990 the minimum corral area must be at least 576 square feet for each horse. For each additional one quarter of an acre over and above the minimum of one acre for horse property an additional horse, mule or donkey may be kept. (Amended effective 4-10-08)
(e) On lots one acre or more, chickens are limited to 10 per acre. On lots larger than one acre, an additional 5 chickens per ½ acre are permitted, but not to exceed a maximum of 50 chickens on any lot. (Added 8/10/11)
SECTION 1904. CATTLE
Cattle are limited to parcels ten acres and larger in size and are limited to one animal per two acres of usable pastureland.
SECTION 1905. BEES
Bees are limited to two colonies per acre, placed a minimum of 75 feet from any residential structure, property line or right of way. The total number may not exceed 10 colonies.

Well, although there's a limit we could still move there. It's 50/50 right now. Where I live right now I'm only supposed to have 12 small animals total. I have 13 ducks, 33 chickens in the laying flock, 20 something bantams, 2 turkeys, 6 chicks, 2 quail, and 4 dogs. My old middle school science teacher lives in Tehachapi and he has neighbors with chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, whatever else has hooves.

I would imagine you could become a wealthy woman quickly with that designer breed
I showed the photo to my hubby when you first put it up. He started laughing and said he knew it wasn't real or else I would have already sold off everything in order to have a dozen. Purple is my favorite color so I am waiting for the purple colored purple egg laying wonder! Go Kim, go!

We have the flu here I guess. Kayla is sound asleep and has a sore thoat and a fever. I'm achy, but trying to catch up and get things done before I can't move. I need that rooster!!! ROFL!!!!!! Man I wonder?????hmmmm I think I have an idea............. Took 6 roosters and 10 chicks to the auction this morning. I'm waiting on that huge $1.00 check now. hahaha. I know I'm not going to make anything, but the crowing has lessened. I couldn't catch the one bantam AM roo I was going to take or Winston, my bantam Wellie roo. I love him, but I have no more hens, He's beautiful though and I hate to do it, but when he roosts sunday night, he's history. One of my project roos I sold off I almost kept but figured I have lots of chicks to grow out and someone will hopefully be as big and as nice. Man was he heavy! I think he out weighed my FBCM roos. I set more eggs a while ago, but as I collect today I'll add more. Sure hope I get more BCMs and AMs to hatch. I had 3 of Laverns eggs sitting for a while and I hope i didn't wait too long. I have 2 of her chicks in the brooder, but I'm getting a bad feeling those are dinky little roos. uck.....need to go get things done. I think I'm fading fast.
