Call duck eggs.

I wouldnt put lights on call ducks, you will get them all messed up laying eggs when they are not fertile..then molting when I they should be laying fertile eggs. They dont need the heat and heat can actually be harmful for them..after all they have the best down jacket on in the world. So take my advice and turn off the light...and they will stop laying.

They are in with my chickens and the light is on for them not the ducks. they eggs are actually fertile when I checked yesterday 5 out of 14 are growing now.

I candled them again yesterday and 7 out of the 14 are growing so that is 50%. And now we have been seeing them mate more than usual so i am not sure if that will boost up their fertility also. We are collecting another clutch to incubate so we can be sure they are good.

Congrats.

I check for fertility by cracking the eggs open and checking, but I also incubate the eggs to check. You may have to help the call ducklings out. Since call ducklings have large heads, and tiny beaks, they often have a very hard time hatching. Last year, out of my mixed color calls, I had 7 out of 8 hatch by themselves in the incubator. I hatched them in cartons. I also let the eggs cool for about 5 min each day and I also mist the eggs once a day.

How long does it take to INCUBATE call duck eggs. Mine are on day 30, still alive but look like they have a few days left when I candled them.
