Hello All,
I have tried and failed o incubate a batch of call duck eggs - and I am just about to start/try again.
I have an HDD mini automatic incubator (24 eggs), and I had the temp at 37.5 degrees and tried hard to keep the humidity around 50-55%, auto rocking every two hours.
In last 3 days I reduced temp and increased humidity - but nothing happened. I am told I may have missed them pipping and then they suffocated - but I don't know.
The eggs were posted.
Out of the 12 - 6 seemed to progress - but I think in the last week or so they possibly died - I could not see movement. At the time I was not sure if I was meant to or not - it was dark and looked similar to pictures in books and online.
I now have another 6 eggs, I have been advised to lay them on their side (which means not using the auto rocker), have a slightly lower temp initially 37.4 in first 7 days. But I am not sure if I should be focusing on temp, or humidity to both...and how to make sure they are right. I am not sure if I should mist them daily or not.
If I concentrate on the temp - the humidity goes awry. There seems to be so many techniques - I have no idea what is right or wrong for Calls specifically.
The current eggs waiting to go into incubation weigh between 45 - 50 grams. 5 of them when candled have a semi cloud configuration in the egg, and one is completely clear.
I am based in Wales, UK
A dummy guide, or dispel any incorrect info would be helpful
