They're adorable. When did you get them? Looks to be male and female but hard to tell on the one farther away. The closer one definitely looks female. How old were they when they shipped them? Thanks for the pictures.
He's cute!!!
I got all of my young ducks from Mc Murry hatchery's. (except the east indies and white mandarin pair) The closest Distributor is in California. I get a good discount because I drive to pick them up. Normally a pair of mandarins cost $360. I get them for $100, that is also with the discount I get because the owner likes me. Call ducks are 30 a pair. whistling ducks are 150 a pair. Call ducks are not available in September, but he just happened to get some in, and let me know. He saved aside the best until I could get them
I can send my hoarder friends a small number of eggs in the spring if you want to hatch them (Shipping costs only). The whistling and tree ducks pretty much lay eggs wherever they are when the urge hits. the I will owe you for the knowledge and strength to make my aviary a successful one. I may have limited eggs since this spring will be my first hatching seasons. I found a good way to ship eggs.
As for getting different breeds, I let my friend know what I want, and he calls me when they come in. If anyone wants something, I can get you a good discount, (depending the prices where you are) even with the shipping. I can pick up my ducks at the same time. (no mileage cost to you) Shipping should be around $65 - $70 for a trio. Less for the really small ducks like teal, Mandarins and wood ducks. these do best if left with the parents until they are old enough to ship.
I wonder if a person could make their own shipping boxes for live birds.
Awww. I love the heads on the snowys. That little tree duck is cute too. The one in the center looks like a mallard more than a call but he may just be a big boy grey call. They're all beautiful!
Well I lost one. Came home last night and he had started zipping, I noticed that his beak was ripped, and he had fluid coming out of his nose. I immediately got him out of the egg, he was completely absorbed, I have no idea where the liquid came from. I used my daughters bulb sucker to clear his nostrils. I thought it worked, he was moving great and I couldn't see anymore fluid. About an hour later I went in there and he was seizing, I held him while he died. I seriously hate hatching. The other one is alive and well and now snuggled up with a beanie baby until the call ducks hatch next week. Here's a picture of the one that passed on. I haven't taken a picture of the live one yet.
