Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Oooooo I have a little round green egg growing too!!!! :)

Woohoo. The oblong white ones are from the blue penciled pair so the babies should look about the same, only blue tint down instead of brown, and probably a little more white since dad is so heavy on the white. The blue penciled has been the only 1 laying for 4 days (I think because I added the 6 wk old to the coop) until today. I got another green egg today, but not 1 from the blue penciled hen lol. They just can't get in sync with the laying lol. I still haven't gotten an egg from my buff gal since adding the baby. And my silver apricot hasn't started laying I guess. Although her mate has started trying to mate her recently, so hoping that means that she's coming into her time to start laying. Lily will be 6 months old at the end of this month and the rest of the flock will be 6 months old next month.

I am finally off for a 4 day weekend and I am so thrilled. Have to get the 3 new chicken coops built but going to enjoy not having to get up at 4 am after being up until midnight or 1 am lol. My tolbunt polish chicks have started to hatch (a day early) along with the silkies. Next up are a couple more calls and some more cochin bantams for next week lol

Oh no I am so sorry!!!!

I will try again Peach. I will wait until they start laying again. It got cold again, and they stopped laying. It should warm up soon though. Thanks for the encouragement.

I think I will build another aviary for a nice type of chicken. Christal has some real nice Mauve Orphingtons. Maybe she will sell me some eggs.

:p
So how do I know what colour ducklings to expect? I have two white females mating with an apricot male and the blue fawn male. I am almost certain that my apricot and mallard female aren't mating at all.

If all of them are pure in their color (no other colors in their background) then the blue fawn and white should produce blue fawn and gray offspring. The apricot and white should produce all blue fawn offspring.

Silly momma- any Orpington chick you want from me is free. I hope you have better duck egg luck soon.

My hoverbator inkie wigged out with all the crazy weather we have been having, went too low, then too high, and all my eggs are gone :(
I threw it out the window!

I picked up this lab incubator which keeps an exact temp.  regardless of the weather. I put two egg turners in, and ran a line in from the fish pump (fresh air). I put a narrow container in with purified water, and it is steady at 30% humidity.  Does anyone see anything I am missing? Arg!!! I thought I finally had it right.

Maybe I should switch to chickens. :he

Man that really hurts Dianne. So sorry for your loss. Glad to hear that you'll try again though. Incubator sounds great.

No problem!!! :) I am trading some call duck eggs for some pilgrim geese eggs. I will collect for you after that and send you some. I've been getting some really cute babies and I don't know whose throwing them out!!!

Awesome on the tolbunts!!! I was going to buy some chicks when Vera picked hers up last weekend, I think I am going to stick to the waterfowl for now though. By the time here start laying maybe I can grab some chicks/eggs from the two of you. Lol.

Can't wait for the calls to hatch. I am overrun with eggs. There's so many eggs in my bator the temp dropped a degree. I had to cover it in towels to get it up to temp, lol. But I think that's why my eggs have been hatching a day late. We will find out anyways. My two call duck eggs that hatched one was grey. You can totally tell the difference. He holds his head close to his body and is SO tiny. The other one kicked out of its shell too early, bled all over everywhere. I put bacitracin on him, gave him vitamins, and I'm leaving him in the bator overnight. He's been really vocal so I'm hoping he'll pull through.

Next up to hatch is I believe the 13th (I'll have to double check) and that's an ancona hatch. I am looking forward to an easy hatch as a kind of break lol. 19th the 4 from you should hatch plus I threw 4 of mine in with them. And I'm too tired to list the rest. Gotta set paint geese eggs tomorrow, then my 18++ call eggs should get here Friday. I really haven't figured out how I'm going to fit them. I may need to break out the Legos again and make some shelves (yes I make shelves in my incubators out of Legos) we will see. Lol

WHOOT enjoy your weekend!!! We've had some allergies/colds going around here with all the rain and pollen in the air, kinda put a stall to our ancona coop. Hoping to pick construction back up next week, should only take a couple days of solid work to finish.

That is so sweet. I will send you more when my ducks start laying again. Lousy Nevada weather!
