Call Ducks Finally Hatched

As of this morning I have 1 Black East Indie and 1 Call out! A third is slowly thinking about zipping. As soon as the zipper is out, I'm going to candle the remaining 7 and safe hole the ones that aren't yet as long as they have pipped internally. Is this the right thing to do? The 2 hatched and 1 zipping were all ones I had safe holed Thursday.

Safe holes only need to be made if 24 hrs have gone by since they internally pipped. I wouldn't safe hole anymore unless you are 100% sure they gone 24 hours since internal pip. :)

Very glad they are popping out!! See? Patience pays off!!

My Anconas are due tomorrow and they've been working their way out early, might have a few out today. 7 externally pipped, 2 are backwards (Lori expect a text later) and many of the other 11 are internally pipped!

Awww sounding good! Piccies?

Final count...3 white calls and 2 black east indies. 10 shipped eggs made it to lock down so this was a 50% hatch. Overall I'm very pleased with the results and glad the stressing is over. At least until the 7th when my next duck hatch should start. Pictures to follow after I finish the feeding and cleaning chores this morning.

One of the white ones has a curled foot so I taped it to see if we can fix it. They are all full of energy and running around like crazy!

LOL. Those are Lori's pictures from a year ago

Still adorable though
My colored pair are starting to lay eggs in their nest box. I am going to let them do the hatching. I have read that if you incubate them yourself most die because they won't eat. so you will have to wait for chicks after they get a little older.
