Call Ducks Finally Hatched

No!!! I don't pick fights with many ;)

You're splashes are gorgeous! I'm VERY new to the silkies so not sure what vaulted means? Mine are not from show quality stock so I don't know if that matters to you or not. I just wanted silkies to use as broodies for my call duck eggs so of course I HAD to go with painted since I am spot-obsessed!

Vault is the knot on top of their head where their crest comes in

OH I've added more Milles to that coop and I got rid of papa, he was shooting off to much white. So we went with someone with more red spots...

My paints??? But I have showgirls in there and you don't like them. Maybe I can separate a couple so you'll just have the paints and no showgirls. I have a coop now that is going to be for couples only. Lol looks like the psints get to test it out first hahahshs

You're right. I'm not a big fan of showgirls but we've talked about that a couple if times and u told you that I was willing to take the chance and hope not to get one. If I did I have a friend that would take them.

Perdy has only laid me her first two eggs, the first on Valentine's Day and the second the day after. She hasn't laid me any the past four days though. Does anyone know why this could be? The only reason I can think of is cause it's been so cold and windy this week. At or below freezing all day and night.

Okay guys, wgats the best food for the calls i feel like my food is way to big for them, since all of my ducks are one a show mens diet, theyre on natural vegetation and large amounts of vegetables, but also on corn and dog food. for the calls i feel that this food is way to big for them, so what is it that i could get at tractor supply that would be the best for calls/ what do you feed yours?

I ferment my feed - it's is a mixture of layer mash, whole grains, BOSS, flax and peas with a few alfalfa pellets thrown in. I planted winter grasses and clover this year so they have lots of vegetation and bugs to boot. :)

Mine are not laying consistently either. I'm guessing it's the crazy weather fluctuation here. It sure makes it hard to incubate when the eggs are all spread out. I don't want them to get to old waiting on a decent size clutch.|

I know! I'm putting Perdy's first two eggs in the incubator Saturday! The breeder I got her and my other two Calls from has lots of eggs already. His are readily laying. I'm thinking ab going and picking up 5 eggs from him to add with Perdy's 2, to set in the incubator Saturday! That way I'll either get a baby of Perdy's or a sibling! His Grey Calls are the parents of my Grey Call Hen, Perdy! :)

Tractor supply has all flock this is what mine gets but then again I have chickens and ducks. However they do have a feed there with a high protein count THATS what I give to my young ones..

Ok first rule in Silkie, they must have five toes, this is there trait, they are the only chickens with five toes,

Second, they must have black skin, any other color like green feet or yellow is a default, no good for breeding or showing.

Third must have blueish earlobes and blueish waddles.

Fourth there combs have to be a walnut shape, although my girls you can't see there's lol

Five thing they have to have fluff no straight feathers, although some boys can get away with a few. For showing people will pluck out the straight feathers which can cause them to bleed but when you want perfection you do what you got to do to win.. One reason I don't care to show..

That's the basic, if they don't have those things right off the bat, they are pet quality.

Then you get into more detail traits such as tail set, wing set etc..
