Call Ducks Finally Hatched

bad news guys the black mallard egg was taken bye crows along with my other mallard eggs

i came home from school was pulling up into the drive way and looked by a tree " Thats a green egg" i said to my self and i then spead all the way up the drive way, i had put the egg in my other girls nest that is literally on the front porch like you have tostep over the nest to get down the steps all the eggs were gone all the eggs gone :(

but good news my black mallard girl laied 2 more eggs last night one blue ( also killed by crows but still in the nest) and another black one that i guess the crows didnt see so the black one is now in the incubator safe and sound.

So, how long do ducklings have after internally pipping before something needs to be done for them externally? I just want to be prepared for my little ones. Praying they remain healthy.

Lacry'd be the go-to person on that, but based on her advice to me from last year, at least 48 hours of no activity. After that, if they've internally pipped but not externally, you can make a "safe hole" so they can breathe. After that I'm not sure...I think she had me wait another 48 hours before busting Wobbles out of his shell? I had to help Sugar Pea out too, since she'd basically thrown herself totally out of the membrane and was smooshed up against the large end of the egg. I guess she thought "pecking's for losers. I'm gonna bodyslam this thing!"

omg, I am so sorry buff goose guy. Tragic. But I am glad you were able to save the one and get it safely locked away.

You know how when a duckling hatches It doesn't need food or water for three days? Does that apply to all birds. I have a problem, I had the dates off and my emus are actually due April 30th. And that is the day I leave for the beach to spend easter with my family... I get back on the third though. Will one emu be ok that 3 days? I cant put food in the hatcher where they hatch it is big enough. Another question; If say only one emu hatches and I am not back until three days later. Will it still imprint on me? Or is that too long of a wait?

Sorry not call ducks but still fowl....

THAT's A HUGE DIFFERENCE ON THE DATE. WOW..

Why don't you just bring them to me and I will watch over them until you get back, I'll be there little babysitter. LOL...then you don't have to worry about them being a failed hatching?? Even though they can survive without food and water for three days, you really don't want them to go that long.

I don't want or need Emus but I wouldn't mind watching the little critters hatch..

NICE, I wouldn't have put it in the bator so soon, I would have waited to see about collecting more then put them all in at once, now your gonna have a lonely mallard.. LOL
