Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Ok thanks. I know what It is but I'm not sure where to make the incision. There seems to e a shadow towards the lower part of the blunt end of the egg. I'm guessing that's the head. Do I make the hole near the head or in the middle? Also do I just tear away at the shell and leave the inner membrane alone or will I have to rip it if the chick hasn't done so?
Make the safe hole on the big end you have to candle it soo that you hit the air cell and not the chick..NO, do not touch the membrane, SHELL only and DO not peal the shell, Just make a tiny little hole. It should not be any bigger than the tip of a pen or pencil.. Small your not making a hole to see the baby, your simply making a hole so that oxygen can get in the shell and the chick will head towards the hole and break the membrane to breathe.

After you make the hole and keep in mind you may hear him peeping at this time, give them at least 24 hours to make some progress, if nothing then I will take you step by step on how to get his head out ONLY. But I must have pictures at that time so I can tell you if I need you to proceed or STOP... DO NOT TRY TO GET HIS HEAD OUT ALONE.... PLEASE, DO NOT.. If you don't know what you are looking for you will end up killing him...

Now: I need you to BE VERY CAREFUL when making the hole, if you go to deep you will or could hit the chick or a vein and the inside of the shell will fill up with blood, something we do NOT want. Avoid that chick you want to go away from him.. Lets hope that dark spot you see at the lower end is NOT the head, if it is this will be a long, long process because with his head at the lower end, he's considered upside down, his head has to be towards the big end, you see he should be trying to get to the air cell to get more oxygen before he runs out. Right now his limited with being all snuggled in the membrane sack..

But its important that you TAKE YOUR TIME, do NOT rush anything. Do not take all the eggs out and work on one then the next etc. Work on one get him a safe hole put him back in the incubator then get another one. If you take all of them out the other two will cool down, possibly get cold and you've just wasted to lives.

So one at a time and do not rush. You have about 30 minutes for each egg, to make a safe hole, It should NOT take that long the most it should take is about 10 minutes per hole per egg.

IF it starts to bleed, Cover the hole with your finger and try to stop it from bleeding and put it right back into the incubator and work on your next one, once you get the others done in about 2 hours go back to the one that was bleeding and try again, that is if you can still see it moving... If you hit the vein chances of survival are going to be low....

I have confident that you can do this without harming them..

Thanks a million. You're a lifesaver. Literally! Lol. Have done that and put it back into the incubator. Hopefully he/she will do the rest by itself. Ill check in in a couple of hours and monitor progress. Is there anything else I should do to help?

Right now no, but let me know in 24 hours if you have ANY progress, if not will proceed with our next game plan. OH boy, now is the time to listen for peeping, the volume is going to be very very very low. Exspecially if it's a girl, girls have low voices and boys have very high voices.

Guess they feel they need to be heard. LOL...

In today's world with the role reversal of genders who can blame them! Lol.
Thanks for your help. If it survives ill name it Crystal after you

Not a real good name for a boy though!!!

True enough. Crystopher then lol or Crystine if a girl.

I checked the other 2 eggs and both are dead sadly. One looks like it died early on. It was only tiny and underdeveloped. The other was older. It had little yellow feathers and a lovely little beak. Very sad.
Still no progress on the last little guy. Looks like it will definitely need assistance. It's still alive but no chirping.

Take pictures of the Two dead one, need to see if they are sticky causing them not to be able to get out of the shell or to wet and drowned. DON"T LAUGH, yes baby ducks can drown... Exspecially once they are out of the shell, Why you ask well I'm glad you asked and I shall tell you. LOL

you see the momma duck puts the babies under her wing, when she does that she puts her oil onto the babies, there for helping them stay a float when going swimming. When you incubate eggs, we are unable to provide them with the same oil. No vegatable oil or car oil is not the same kind of oil. So there fore if we were to take them swimming right away there fur would suck up the water like a sponge causing weight and the baby to drown... So since we can not provide them with the same oil, we have to avoid them from swimming for at least the first week of there little lives. After a week they produce there own oils and are able to stay a float.....

You can send them privately not to gore anyone on here out..

k, i have a baby down.... it can't stand up, just pushes itself along... i came home and found it soaking wet and lame.... i can't rehab it in water cuz it still doesn't float... i read somewhere that babies have a deficiency that causes this...anyone know??? will save a chick help??? i have separated from the others so they don't keep walking on it and cause more damage... and i'm not sure if thats not what happened in the first place...advice please???
