Call Ducks Finally Hatched

I won't be so stressed with mine this time as their due date is next Sat and I'll be home with them. The other 60 call duck eggs came this morning :). Into the bator they will go tonight :) The brooding of these is going to be a chore lol. I'm sure the 16 I have due next weekend will be a chore, but if fertility holds true, there will be about 40 ducklings in the next batch that are going in tonight lol

Good lord that's a lot of babies, ha your not going to have any hair left..

I want to take good advice when it's given, so if this is good advice, I WILL buy more from her and I won't breed the current ones I have.

However, I have also had someone tell me that she tries to drive away competition so she's going to do anything and everything to discourage me.

I don't know what to think!!'

Here what you basically have to do to correct your pet quality or default duck.

You basically have to breed your default duck to someone who doesn't have that default and hope the baby corrects it.

Now let's say your male duck fault is half the required spots, so you take a girl who may have the correct spots but has a different default. Let's say your girl has a beak thats not the correct length but your default boys beak is.

So you have a default boy who doesn't have the correct spots and your default girl who has to short of a beak.

you breed the two together and HOPEFULLY the baby will come out with the parents gene and give you the correct spots and correct length in beak and you go from there., you basically need to breed what ever default they may have right out of them.. Once you get that accomplished boom you will have you show quality duck.

It will take some time to do this, it's not something that happens in one shot breeding..... Unless your lucky. Lol

Now here's the tricky part lets say your baby has the right spots and right size beak but his fault is eyes aren't right color. Now you have to find a mate perhaps one of the parents that does have the right color and breed them together. You have to breed the defaults out of them in order to get your show quality duck...

Hope this makes sense.. ItS a lot of work but man it is well worth it...

Now let's say after you breed the default male and default girl and the baby has one or both defaults of the parents then You want to start over, because if the baby retains both defaults from both parents that would tell you those parents are throwing off defaults and probably will continue to do so.. that would be hard to correct.. Unless you get different mate for both boy and girl to breed there faults out of them..

Okay thank you that last part is what I needed to know.

The males default is he doesn't have enough coloring.

The two females default is they have too much. BUT the two females have two things that ARE hard to get for this breed, the Beatle green sheen AND color on the chest. So if I can breed them, get the Beatle green sheen, color on chest AND more diluted color then BOOM I have breeder quality.

Okay so question guys. I was talking to the lady I got my Anconas from. She said that the ones I got from her are pet quality. She also said that to breed them would be the equivalent of being a backyard breeder because they aren't breed/ show quality.

My females are high black, my chocolate male is low chocolate, both are NOT breed standards. The goal is spots, and medium coverage. Other people have told me one will negate the other and that my birds COULD throw breeder or show quality. She is telling me to buy show and breeder quality ones from her and not to breed mine.

Opinions?

She already knows what her ducks are throwing off. I would by from someone else..

And another. I think I'm being paranoid. It looks like the first picture has internally pipped.
