Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Yay. Can't wait to see pictures as they grow and feather out. 2 of the yellow calls I just hatched look to each have a black spot on their back so curious to see if it turns into anything or if it's just off colored down for some reason or another. Lily is still scared of them and runs if they get too close to her lol. They're so funny to watch. The babies are so clumsy lol

I saw some calls that were listed as "ancona call ducks". They looked like the Anconas, but were clearly calls. I wonder if that is a recognized color of the breed?

Probably magpies. People sometimes just call them whatever when they don't know. I love the magpies and hope that I get some with these eggs

I have 2 more days to to go. Correct me if I am wrong on any of this, It seems that the call ducks start piping and zipping on day 26, but actually make it out on day 27.

If the eggs are in lock down, how can you tell if they have internally piped? To make a safe hole you have to open the incubator. Is it that on the 26th day lock down ends? If you see the baby is internally pipped how long to you wait to make a safe hole? At what point do you panic, then proceed to help the little guys? What is the next step? I have read that you help the duckling to get it's head out, then leave it to see if it can do the rest by it's self.

If you raise the humidity a little the eggs get gooey? Since I got home, the humidity is a little lower, due to evaporation. Can I add water through a tube to the reservoir to get the humidity back up where it should be, at 70% .

I sure hope they make it. It is so close now I see baby ducks in my dreams.

Thank-You for all of your help!

Stop turning at day 22
Lock down (raise humidity) at day 23 (I normally raise to 60-65%)
Mine all started internally pipping at day 24
Externally pipped at day 25
Hatched day 26 (my first single baby was a day early on pipping and hatching)

I candle mine on day 24. If internally pipped I give 10-12 hrs to externally pip. If no progress I make safe hole. Once they've externally pipped or you've made safe holes is when you want to be very cautious about keeping humidity up and only opening incubator if needed. A drop in humidity or temp at this point can cause the membrane to shrink wrap around the baby and him not being able to get out. If no progress after 24 hrs you may need to help. Mine were sticky because I had to raise humidity early for my first single baby to get out because she was set earlier and had a different due date than the others. If you ran humidity 25-30% during incubation then the babies shouldn't be sticky. Still a good idea to be prepared though. They shouldn't take 27 days though.

It is normal for them to try and "eat" their bedding when you first put it in? I've been watching them and haven't actually seen them swallow any but they are doing their little sifting thing through it and making me nervous. I don't want any impacted babies.
