Call Ducks Finally Hatched

This is just an idea.

One of my eggs was close to hatching, but I could see goo. I wanted to try making a little hole and use a hypodermic syringe to extract the liquid. I waited too long, and it died.

After, I did extract the extra fluid, but of course it was to late. But I was able to get all the liquid out without injury to the fetus or yolk. I think it would have worked if I had done it sooner, and then taped the little hole shut after.

Hopefully I will never get another egg like that. But if I do, I will try it. Doing nothing obviously doesn't work.

Anyway just an idea.

Don't give up! You will get to 99% again.

Nice try but NOPE, it does NOT work, I have tried. I've actually gotten all the Extra goo out and sealed up the egg, it lasted a Really Really long time but never absorbed and finally died. GRRR, I have tried that little trick, thought the SAME thing as you. If I get that out PERHAPS...... but nope didn't work... I even Flushed the egg from the INSIDE with water to Rinse off the left over goo thinking OK NOW it can absorb, tried it on TWO different eggs. Results they both died...

I would love to try it on these guys but because I'm down to two eggs from Tammy, I am NOT going to risk it. I'm hoping they can Bust that membrane, I think once they do, the egg will fill up with goo and perhaps I will have a better chance.

You see if you disturb them before they get into the Air cell, I believe they die because there lungs can't handle intaken of air, I think it's too quick or that much at one time. Not sure if this is true or not but that's what I'm seeing so far. So my theory is if they can bust the air cell, give them 24 hours for there lungs to adjust to the air intake THEN perhaps all this would work. because by then there lungs have already adjusted to breathing..

I agree. Until internal pip occurs there's nothing we can do to help.

I got a new duck pool, 12 feet across. It did not look that big on the package, but it is huge. I am putting 3 different kinds of pumps and filters in it. One is the UV filter to get rid of the green gook. A silica sand pump for the duck poo, and one to clean leaves and derbies Hopefully it will keep it clean enough for the ducks.

Those ducks are pretty smart! Mary and Carrie (her chicken friend) were right in there helping me set it up. Before long all my ducks were happily walking around on the unfinished pool. I think they remembered the big pool last summer!

They weren't to happy about my slow progress when I quit working on it after dark. There it sits, all finished, but no water!!! Tomorrow I will fill it up after I make an exit ramp, then they will be happy!!! They may start laying eggs again! Happy ducks are productive ducks.

I have been getting one or two East Indie eggs every day now. I am excited about having Indie ducklings coming. The funny thing about my Indies is they are not just green when the light hits them. They have blue and purple too. Weird huh? I think they are prettier that way, but it may be a flaw. But If I wanted to show them here in the middle of the desert, where the only ducks you can buy is runners, Swedish, and Peaking. My indies should get first place in their breed, they would be the only Indies.

However I wont be counting my ducklings until they hatch. Meanwhile I am keeping myself busy with repairs and making improvements on the aviary. I still have to make separate quarters, and a chicken house for the English orphingtons I will be getting. I think I want to get the bantam size though.

These guys are allot of work, but they joy they bring into my life makes it well worth the effort. Thanks to all my friends on this thread, who have encouraged me not to give up, and learning that this hatching obsession is really a good disease to have. I just can not stop me from putting all my chicken eggs in the incubator too.

I just love my Dutch, Cochin's and Anacondas Orph. mixes. I will have to give some up so they aren't having mixed babies. Oh my! what to do? There is a guy 15 miles from me that wants bantam chickens. I could give some to him! I will be able keep one my favorites. Just have to figure witch it will be. omg here I am rambling on. Sorry!

Any ideas on my predicament will be greatly welcome.

Thanks again for all you have done for me!!!

The last two did not make it...
I am so sorry! My lone duck is due in two days. I think this crazy weather is messing up our efforts! Is it still winter weather there? with some spring like days in between? That seems to be causing my difficulties. Maybe this supposed Global warming is real, and is messing with us hard? It may be necessary to re-adjust our thinking to compensate for any weather changes. If anyone can figure this out, that would be you.... Something is changing in the weather. I just think we should re-think everything. Good God what next?

YES, YES, I NEED EGGS. ALTHOUGH I WAS READY TO GIVE UP, with all these losses, I don't know how much more I can tak

Give me a week and I'll get send you some eggs. I want to make sure you get some from my blue pencilled before I send them, they MAY have laid two eggs yesterday but I'm not positive.

Also, maybe time to get a new bator?? Or is if the power outages that's doing it? If so, maybe a small generator to power the bators during the outages times.

I'm gonna have to agree because everything else I'm doing is the same, I think I need to pay more attention and make necessary adjustments. This weather has been soooo wacky this week..
