Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Poor thing did he struggle to get out??

He surprised me by getting out over night last night. I really thought he was a goner. He was peeping inside his shell, and it sounded panicked to me. So, I candled him. And I could see lots of blood. I said a prayer and broke into his egg where his bill was. His bill (among other parts of him) was covered in blood, and it was starting to congeal in his nostrils. I carefully got his beak cleaned off without moving him inside at all. I swear, he immediately calmed down! It looked like he ripped veins along with the stretchy sac that covers them, it was pulled away from the egg and exposing him to the outer sac. It was congealing well, so I left him like that. I couldn't see his yolk sac, so I assumed he was trying to hatch. I blotted and put pressure on a few big veins. It honestly was pretty darn scary. If I moved him wrong, the blood would have dripped all over his bill again. I left him alone to heal while still attached to the egg if it was possible and he was out of the egg, dry and talkative this morning at 8.

Whew! Long story :)

Looks like a foot problem too definitely a deficiency yes get him a drop of poly and the vitamin e If u have vitamin b completely put a pill in a quart of water and dropper feed him

Get that humidity up should be at 65 for lockdown.

I don't have vit b,but I checked, there's two vit b's in the poly (I have the no iron one in case you are wondering). I can get some tomorrow if he makes it through the night. He will drink water but only if I help and refuses to eat.

YOU ARE EXTREMELY LUCKY, once they bust a main vein, it's usually the end. So you are EXTREMELY luck!!! GOOD JOB. It's probably why he's so weak, he didn't get all the blood that he needs. Give him those vitamins..

He needs his vitamins, because he had some blood loose he's going to be very very weak. The Vitamin B in Poly isn't enough, He needs Vitamin B3 I like using Vitamin B complete because It has it all..

He came back, THAT MOTHER F***ing FOX came back last night and didn't give me his sound. Now I have a sound for HIM..BOOOOOOM, a 22.

It's about 8:00 I'm in the kitchen watching outside, my son is next to me, I just got done telling, I'm watching for that fox because he didn't get anything last night, he'll be back tonight. My son looks at the clock, well you have 30 minutes yet. I said NOPE, He'll come back early today because he's trying to throw off my Time.

AND SURELY AS I SPOKED, THERE HE WAS:

I caught him in the act, he was in the woods Jumping up and down going really fast, Right in front of him, MY BUTTERSCOTCH. Thank god that Duck can FLY. When I saw him chasing my duck, my jack russel and I went running out there. We were going to catch that sucker. Not sure what I'm going to do with him once I get him but we are going to get him.

So I'm running and watching, my duck disappears and I thought FOR SURE he got him. GRRRRRRRRRR. My dog and I are scouring the woods. I'm in my BARE FEET, prickers, Tall weeds anything and everything I'm stepping on.. Legs are all cut up... I didn't care.

We found NOTHING. we searched for about 45 minutes, no duck, no fox. GRRRRRRRR. We head back to the yard because I'm thinking Crap I best better lock up the others, that dang fox could have back tracking after them while I'm out here looking for him.

BUT THEN I look to my LEFT, WHOLY SH**, it's my butterscotch. LOL, he made it. I looked at him, he looked at me, I go "get in the coop", and surely as I'm telling you, that duck pokey back into the coop, just as if he heard me. LOL

So we locked everyone up and did a head count. Sadly, enough there was only 11 ducks. Looks like that DANG FOX got two of them. We didn't see any feathers or anything when we scoured the woods so I'm not completely sure if he got them. They may have done what my butterscotch did and FLEW. Perhaps they flew so far that they lost there way back. I'm hoping tonight they will be there, they were not this morning..

I know each time a fox came around our house they would always take three, my butterscotch could have been the Third one after he took the other two. But then again, he could have NOT gotten lucky at all and just scared the other two out of the yard. Will know Tonight, because if he's THAT hungry, HE"ll be back but tonight I will have ONE UP ON HIM, I will be locking my ducks up at 7:30 tonight. YEH, the earlier I lock them up the Safer they will be.. and if he doesn't show up tonight, Then I know he got the two..which means in ONE week he'll be back for more..

So to solve my Fox problem, My son threw TWO options at me. LOL,

First he said up in the loft, we have, GROSE, and I didn't know this, we have Fox urine. LOL. Not sure what I'm suppose to do with Fox urine??? Not sure how we got Fox urine HAHHAHA...

Then he said your second option is will wait for him by the coop and when he comes, l' ll shoot him in the leg. Then you can heal him back to health and we can make him our pet so that he doesn't get any more of the ducks/

LOL, What a smart kid I have?? I wonder what option would actually work???

Hello all! My first ever duck is pipping right now. I have a question about vitamins, as I'm a total Noob! I see a lot of people posting about giving their ducks extra vitamins, and I don't understand as to why the started duck crumble wouldn't have enough vitamins for a healthy duckling? I don't have any vitamins on hand, and even if I did, I wouldn't know how many drops to give! I bought the organic duckiling starter crumble, some grow gel, and a big bag of dried kelp. I would hope that these 3 food offerings would have plenty enough vitamins. Now I'm scared!

The extra vitamins are for ducklings that are not doing too well. I personally dissolve a children's gummy vitamin in 1/4 cup of water and only give it a few cc's with a syringe. I hold it up to the beak and let it drink the droplets coming out. If you force it it will aspirate and die. Again I only do this for weak ducklings, that need a little extra help. Your duckling will most likely be tired after hatching and will just sleep for hours after it hatches. That is normal, so don't worry about that.

Has it hatched yet :)

Not yet, and I'm driving myself insane staring at it! It pipped externally yesterday, but didn't break through. Nothing has changed today :( but it's still dancing and shaking in there!
