Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Thank you for all your help to identify my mystery duckling.

But it came out of a shiny creamy tan egg! It sure looks like  Mallard duckling to me.  Maybe you just cant count on egg appearance. I have a gray pair of calls that are a bit larger than my other calls. The drake does not have a stripe around it's neck. Bought them from Murry McMurry hatchery. If they are actually mallards I am sending them back. But the female was sitting on blueish green eggs. I had to put them in my incubator because she just got up and left them after a couple weeks. I put airaconda eggs in their place, but she was totally done with that. One of that type will be hatching out next week. Maybe It will clear up the mystery.

I sure love that little duck though. After putting it back into the brooder after climbing all over me, it pitches a fit. I sure hope it is a hen.

The other tan eggs, I am sure that they are mandarins. I have seen the hen go in and out to lay eggs. The drake stands guard when she is in there. I have seen the white hen sneak in there too. she is covering them with down feathers now, so I think she is getting ready to sit on them.

I didn't realize that you had a pair of gray calls so that's possible. You'll know for sure once it starts to feather lol.

That's cute about her having a fit when you put her back in the brooder. Fingers crossed for you that she's a girl :)

Thanks!

Also my mandarin is sitting on the eggs now. The count down begins!

I finally figured it out! What had me stuck was that the egg was much smaller than hers. But the markings are exactly right except for the feet color, and the bill is too short. I have only one Australian which is a hen I use for brooding other types of eggs, so it must be a call mix. If it was an indie mix I believe it would be black or bibbed. I will look it up on the genetic calculator. But if It is a hen, I will have another good sitting hen!

tell me what you have been doing..

Okay, so the last couple of days were hell. Got a migraine and was sick in bed for two days. Only managed to do the very least and continue duckling care and get my daughter ready for school.

So... Now that I feel human again... I have been doing this stuff for my little buddy, Igor.

Food covered on vitamin E. Water with 2 droppers full of vitamin B complex and one dropper full of poly. I give another vitamin E tab directly on the beak so I know he's getting it. Morning and night and I also massage the crooked neck. It straightens out momentarily and then goes right back. They hate when they are separated for the massage. 10 minutes of them yelling at me several times a day lol

4-6 months old. You can also vent sex ducks if you're familiar with that. Pretty easy and if you need them there are quite a few videos on YouTube.

I have vent sex ed my ducklings before but I was told it shouldn't be done past 3 to 4 days old. Why is that? Or do you sex yours past that age? I was never given a reason for not doing it.
