Call Ducks Finally Hatched

That's what I was thinking. I'll check on Perdy and her nesting box a few times a day to collect any eggs she may lay in this freezing weather that is headed our way tomorrow night. If in a week it's still real cold and windy, I'll incubate her sweet, little babies! :)

Several of my calls are laying already also. I tried to leave a few to see if they'd sit but nobody seems to want to be broody yet so into the incubator they went. I'm in FL though so no freezing temps here. It has been down into the 40s the last 2 nights though so those eggs may not be viable. We shall see. Good luck with yours. They sure are messy compared to chickens but they're adorable :)

Yes, they are messy and adorable :) I just love them. The weather has been relatively warm here too, until today. I'm about to bring her little egg in now. Is it okay to cradle it in a blanket and put it in one of my dresser drawers? I would leave the dresser drawer open, so it could still get plenty of fresh air as well as stay warm. Would that be okay?

Lol. That is where I keep mine until they go into the incubator. I put them in an egg carton, fat end up and rotate the carton back and forth 3 times a day until I set them

I don't want Perdy to think a wild animal has gotten her little egg and I don't want her to be upset either. Replacing it with a boiled egg is the right thing to do right?

Ehh...I never thought so, personally. It'll just prolong her broodiness and could slow her egg laying rate, and besides, the hard boiled one's gonna go bad eventually.
