Call Ducks Finally Hatched

I've had her third egg in for 2 and a half hours. It hasn't started 'sweating' at all. If it did freeze outside, is there a chance it could thaw out and still hatch? Or is that just wishful thinking?

2 hours is to long, they will start sweating almost immediately and no if it's frozen it's beyond. Once they reach a certain temp, it's no good..

None of my eggs sweat usually, they just don't idk why but they might and i just don't notice.

I've had some that have sweat, the extreme cold weather will freeze them and some will actually crack, just took one out of the coop yesterday that was frozen solid with a cracked shell..

Yeah, I've never seen an egg sweat either. I'm just really hoping her egg didn't freeze. And if it's fertile, that it'll hatch and be healthy

They will sweat as soon as you get them in a warmer place. Sounds like your ok. With our weather in the negative, were talking -27 today, there's really no hope unless I'm sitting there waiting for that egg to come out. Lol. That's not going to happen, lol. To cold...

If the egg froze it will not be viable and will not grow. You can not do lockdown for 1 set of eggs while the other set is not ready. The increase in humidity will cause extra fluid build up in the eggs that aren't ready and the babies in those eggs will likely drown. If you want to do staggered hatches you will need a 2nd incubator for lockdown/hatching

OR if you don't have two bators, don't lock them down keep temp and humidity the same. You may have to spray the ones that start externally peeping because chances are they will shrink wrap but as long as they get that spray job, they should still be ok..

OK thanks! I know some of the showgirls have pink and black skin. All have 5 toes. Will have to check on those other traits. Thanks for the help!

I was told and this hasn't been verified yet but word out there is if your showgirl has pink, it's a rooster, showgirls with black only is a hen...

I meant if you had it in the house for two hours that's to much time, it would have sweating right away, so if within 10 to 15 minutes it doesn't sweat, then it didn't get cold enough that it should be OK.. I didn't want you to think you had to give it two hours to see it sweat. LOL

Experiement HAS STOPPED, out of the two eggs, One quit. it's been 15 days. the second one is still going but I have take him off the turner and laid him down. Will will try again only and give less time.

So at 15 days your taken a risk of keeping a duck egg on the turner in a upright position.. I'm thinking it's the size and way they form in that shell..

So at 15 days your taken a risk of keeping a duck egg on the turner in a upright position.. I'm thinking it's the size and way they form in that shell..

Poor lil' guy...I hope the other one's okay, day 15 is around the time the embryo starts turning towards the large end of the shell, so it may be that they get confused or turn sideways so they get squished up in the middle instead of growing outward lengthwise like they're supposed to. That's just speculation, though.

I saw we should ask those big hatcheries if they lay eggs on their sides or upright and what they do!
