I have one due to hatch July 1st and eleven due to hatch July 8th. I just want to be prepared for breech babies before the time comes. After three hatches, I think I can finally tell when a baby is pushing on the air cell with it's beak or it's bum when it is time!Any advise for me?
My 16 call eggs are due to hatch the 30th and i have to go out of town for a funeral and be gone the 26th through the 30th. I've decided to let them hatch in the turner, do you think if i have my wife add a small bowl of water on the 28th and unplug the turner that would work out? She really wants nothing much to do with my ducks, but i think she'd at least do that much. I discovered last hatch that my incubator fan is so tiny and turns so slow that the temperature is a couple of degrees lower on the bottom screen; thus my reasoning for letting them hatch in the turner, the temperature will be stable.

I would take the off the turner Before you leave, lay them down..ducks have a hard time hatching on a turner and even Commericial hatchers lay them down for hatching time.
You can take them off the turner 4 days before the due date in fact that is the Best time to do it. Make sure the larger end is slightly higher then the smaller end to avoid upside downers. Also add the water on the 27th Not the 28th..

I had a feeling the pic was for perspective. It is cool.
I am a potato chip-aholic. So I get it.
Whats going on with the leg? I have some cool ideas for leg issues when it comes to Cochins.
I would not lock the one down, if you lock him down, then your basically locking all the eggs down and that's going to cause you issues with the next group. So Just let him go with normal settings, once you see him making progress get ready, you may have to squirt him with some water because remember his going to be a tab bit dry, to dry to get out. That's when your going to need to help... but I personally would not lock him down..
I think maybe a slipped tendon but I still cant feel the darned thing. I thought it was just splay leg, but she doesn't bend it right. I treated with a band aid for splay leg and that pulled it in under her body some, and she is trying to use it now. But I'm exercising it every evening too. Its getting better each day. She still eats like a pig so I think she will survive, even if she never gets full use of it. 10 days old now.
So what are your ideas?
I was thinking you had one. LOL OK then take her off the turner if you have her on one and lay her, wait we are calling it a him, Lay him down with the larger end slightly higher then the smaller end. This should help. But if by chance, it's and UPSIDE DOWNER, WOOOO HOOOO MY FAVORITE, let me know.. will get him out..I have two incubators. So, my plan is to stabilize my other incubator and move the one little one to it and lock it down alone. I just worry about having a breech baby. Can a safe hole be made for a breech baby? I want to be prepared in advance in case I have one.
