Call Ducks Finally Hatched

http://www.holderreadfarm.com/breeds_list_page/breeds_list.htm

Also, here on the foremost domestic waterfowl expert in the world's webpage,, you will also see gray call refered to as gray(mallard) or mallard call duck. Wild mallard is a wild duck species that the domesticated duck descended from. In domesticated ducks, mallard refers to the color of the duck. Because we all know that a domesticated mallard colored duck is not actually a wild mallard. In runner ducks, i believe the mallard color is called 'trout' so there's another synonym for the color of the mallard, or gray duck, or greenhead. Rouen ducks, that are also mallard/ gray colored, we normally just call them Rouens, and that suffices because we know they are a large bird bred to be butcher ducks for eating, and we don't confuse them with the smaller domesticated mallard colored duck.

Duckmeister, when we say 'Mallard," we are referring to the breed, not the coloring. The variety in Calls is termed gray. Wild pattern is present in many breeds of ducks. The Holderread site isn't saying they're called Mallard, just explaining to people who might be looking at the website that the variety 'gray' doesn't mean the duck is actually gray, but that it has the same coloring as a typical Mallard.

Rouens are also the standard wild pattern, but they're not bred just for butchering. Many of us keep them as pets because they're a friendly and beautiful breed.

Quote: ahh you said mallard not mallard coloring , so you can understand my confusion so please excuse me i did not understand that you meant a type of coloring i assumed you meant breed. I think that if you specified mallard coloring it would save alot of confusion for people, like new people to the thread who might just see mallard and go " ohh thats a mallard" and not get that you meant the coloring.

How are yours Jade

I can't wait to see some pics, darling. Mine are different ways at different times. All kinds of cute until I pick up a camera. It's a lot of ducks, and I know I have to put some of them up for sale soon. Far too many babies this year to keep most of them.

Are yours flying much? Most of our 2015 ones are flying now, and we have one I've named Skylar that likes to fly around more than walk. Her bill is just a bit long enough that she wouldn't have come up on my 'keepers' when I sorted my spreadsheet of the 2015 ones, but I just love her so much that we're going to keep her. She soars all around the yard. She's from a great line and is small, so she'll still be great for breeding even though she's not one I'd show.
