Call Ducks Finally Hatched

OH NO, that's horrible..

Yeah, I posted something about it on another thread. All around bad day, but the incubator disaster was the worst part of it. Oh well, we'll see how what's left goes. I had to wax two of the ones that broke. We got another egg today that I'm going to set in a few minutes. This onesie-twosie stuff is actually more trouble than having several hatch at once.

My Holderread's hen, she was purchased as breeder quality, i suspect there is something about her color that precludes her from being show quality, she quite dark colored. Her conformation is excellent though, tiny plump body, short bill. She is the mama of my drake that had angel wing that i fixed with duct tape, and also my 2 bibbed hens. Think next year I'll lock her up with my gray drake and have some 100% grays. She hatched her own brood this year, she's a great little gal.

Forgot to mention, she is so teenie tiny that her quack sounds more like a wild teal hen than a mallard derived quack, really high pitched, different than all the other call hens. Never have named her, but think I'll call her Little Miss Teenie Tiny. She's just coming out of moult, just a little blood left in her flight feathers.

Here 's my Holderread's most expensive drake, he was purchased as show quality, paid $100.00 for him, most i ever paid for a duck in my life. (paid $60 for the breeder quality gray hen) he is such a fiesty fellow for being so tiny, he mates everything, the hens and the drakes, he's just a horrible little fellow. For being extraordinarily small and tiny, he is also extraordinarily strong and hardy, he's a little terrorist. Thinking about penning him with the Holderread's gray hen, they are so similiar in conformation.

Look at the size and bill length on these Holderread's ducks, these babies got really short bills! :D. A guideline for all of us breeding call ducks, the small size and short bill length (1 inch or so) really do matter.

I completely forgot about that since she hasn't been around for a while. She's overrun with Calls right now just like I am. I hope he's okay.
I think I remember his name. Trouble. And she has one with a slipped tendon too. Junior? Hope I didn't mix up the names.
