I'm curious from all of you guys, Where did you get your FIRST call duck???

I got mine about 45 minutes from the house, I didn't know much about them, I figured what the heck, I traded eggs for eggs, none of them hatched because of the Call challenge. Then we tried again my second batch was from other friend on here she had Butterscotches.. and it went from there. So my First call was a Butterscotch and I still have him today..

That is so cool. And now you're so good and a go to person for hatching call ellggs.

I never knew poultry could live so long having a Muscovy drake going on 12 this coming march. My dh says you know we thought for sure the last 2 winters we'd lose him.not from sickness just from being frail not molting any more things like that. but he has proved us wrong both years. He thinks Ernie will out live us lol I'd love to see some pics of your Butter scotch colored Calls. I am not sure I have seen that color

I dont have any calls...yet...
But my first ducks and chickens came from my sister in law. Extra males that she had, and I wanted ducks for my pond at camp. She brought me three drakes... and 5 roosters! Lost 3 roosters to predators before we got everything secure. Killed one for his mean antics a couple months ago, still have the last one. Lost the 3 drakes last winter, horrible snow storm. Hatched my own last March, still have all of them. Chicken math hit hard after that

Ha. Love the bird math. And Juice just had some babies.

Nah, not that... he was just gonna dump them on his grandma's farm to fend for themselves... no shelter, no protection, and we have tons of predators... they just wouldn't last long...

I know even when we try our best, predators can still figure out ways to get to them, but I just feel it is wrong to lay out a cute little buffet for an all you can eat predator diner...

That is so awful and terrible and I don't wanna think about it. It's one thing if a pred gets one by virtue of figuring it out(which totally sucks) but to leave them as victims to fend for themselves? NO WAY. I am glad you did not give him any.

I got some eggs from @clousert when I lost about 10 calls, they just took off and never returned, she was sooooooo KIND to send me some eggs. I can't remember exactly how many I hatched out but I still have them.. I apparently keep all my babies if they come from someone else, the only time I will sell them off is if my current flock has eggs. Then I will pop them in the bator but all the old folks (46 calls now) they are here to stay.

I'm still waiting for ONE of them to POP out a magpie, I know it's coming, I KNOW IT IS..

IM SCREAMING AT MY FLOCK FOR NOT COOPERATING. Just can't figure out my magpie color. I tried a bibbed with white that didn't work. Tried a pied with white that didn't work grrrrr
Tried the pied with black that didn't work. Grrrrrrr

Running out of girls and colors to try. They are all confused. They Keep looking at me like and who am I going to team up with? My poor greys are starting to get angry because they want a shot at it but I know that's not going to work. Lol

We have to say it will happen. And when it does, you will have to make this Call a house duck and take him/her to work. You can tell your boss the little darling is a new purse from Nordstrom's or Macy's.
