Good morning, well morning anyways. Slept in bed for a bit last night. I guess that's progress.

Adorable ducklings Shannon. So people still want extra male ducks? Aren't they just as much trouble as the roosters?

It's one reason I don't hatch much. I don't like having to butcher extra males. I try to fit in as many as possible.

Darla looks great on her new haircut. :(

Hello Lisa..:frow
Yes the Drakes are just as much trouble as Roosters. Although easy to get rid of.
I'm not totally finished Darla I still have a little clean up to do today. I'm moving the new Cockerel today into the top portion of the Duck house so he has more room.

Hopefully he gets there. I know you have to be careful not to feed to much rich foods initially. I bought a very emaciated pony back 30 years ago. Took about 6-12 months to turn her around. Free access to a good grass hay will help.
oh yes. i definitely dont want him putting it on too quick or foundering. great advise Lisa. thank you! we've got him a round bale he has access to 24/7. i didnt do a sweet feed blend like a lot of ppl would (and have) recommended. he doesnt need to get hyped on the sugar in the molasses. i have a basic horse feed we use a a base feed for all the horses (provides the basic nutrients), but his daily blend includes a higher fat % senior feed, a weight supplement from the vet, rolled oats, black sunflower seed, and a dash of timothy/alfalfa pellets on top. he also has free choice mineral and salt licks. the good news is that his joints are in good condition. he has a decent topline. as he fills out he will be gorgeous. im looking forward to seeing his personality shine more as he gets to feeling more like a horse again. found out that Allie is only about 14. her and Sully are both gaited. well i know she is. i havent seen Sully do anything but walk. which is fine considering he needs to be storing fat not burning it....
