Yep, they're from show lines...my whites at the time were mostly Hodum lines with a pair of whites from Foley's line of Lundgren whites in there too. Grays were from Foley's with a pair of LaGesse grays, and I had a self-black Foley male and a Gregory line self-black female in the mix. At the time I had no breeding pens set up so all 16 ducks were running together. Hattiegun came and got some of the early ducklings from this group. Incidentally, I also retained a few ducklings from these early groups of ducklings as personal pets and they have done very well at the shows too.
Do you know my husband still bugs me about those spotted babies?
159 ducklings later and he still misses those two! Keeps saying he wants me to breed more! We have breeding pens now and I keep telling him we want pure colored babies, but I may have to cave sometime and give him his spotted duckling! Someone I show with has a Call who is shown as a Spot but is getting a blush to her head like a Snowy female that hasn't quite colored up all the way...I have thought of asking him if I could buy it just to keep the husband happy and not have to mix ducks up again, but I doubt he would sell it because it is truly a wonderful duck to look at, like your babies are!
better not show hubby the pics.. he'll be knockin at my door wantin them back lol lol
okay then, they are called spotted?? I still have to much to learn.. I dont know if they were called spotted, pied, magpied..ughhh confusing. All I know is pics do NOT do them justice.. they are soooooo pretty in real life and Im really glad I got them... now I just need some more girls for my 2 boys...
Well, me personally, I just call them spotted or mixed Calls...they're not true to the color variety of Spot Call, which is in the book in the non-standard section, so I'd maybe just call them spotted.
He already saw the pics, which is why he wants us to have more! He likes to pretend that he's chuffed with the ducks and then he asks for more! He complains about having to build pens and then he shows up the other day bringing home a great big cylinder of the colored zip ties I mark ducklings with...500 ties in the package! I kidded with him that by giving me that, he's giving me carte blanche to hatch out 500 ducklings next year and he just kind of shrugged and said okay...I said, okay, you better remember that in the spring when we have little flippery feet running all over the place and you're griping about watering ducklings constantly!
