I finally got a pic of Poppy, but of course Melba had to get in on it. I also got an excellent butt pic. Melbaās looks curly and fluffier.View attachment 2312672View attachment 2312673

I wanted some BO female chicks back in April and I ordered them from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. They were backordered until July. I ordered 6 females. They are now 6 weeks old. I don't think Meyers is very good at sexing them because I am sure that 2 of them are Roos. They shouldn't let you order Females versus Strait run if they don't know. The suspects' tail feathers look like fishing lures and are more erect. Also they strut around and try to bite me. The others have back tail feathers that look more like a cone and they are very sweet and come to me and let me pet them. They are all going from the brooder in my bonus room out to the Coop tomorrow. The Roos have not started crowing yet, but when they do....it will be conclusive.I bought 6 āfemaleā chicks from a feed store, and got two Roos. Spread your luck to me please, just like throw it into your screen.
Tail feathering is too misleading at that age. Don't judge by that. Hopefully you have all girls. Thank you for replying. The first image of the Suspects, I circled the tails that look different to me. They are always the two that come running at me first, to peck at me. I have marks where they have nipped me. The second pic of the Two Buffs shows the one on the left with a tail that looks more like a "cone" (female I think) and the one beside it on the right has a tail more like a fishing lure (male I think). Quite a difference in their tails and their dispositions. They are 6 weeks old tomorrow. When do they start crowing?Tail feathering is too misleading at that age. Don't judge by that. (Chicken math!) I only wanted a few hens and had an order coming, but the hatchery was out of BOs at the time I ordered. I couldnāt resist the BOs when we stopped at TSC! We got four, straight run, and they ended up being two hens and two roos. Theyāre hilarious, but theyāre a couple of weeks older than our EEs and bully them a bit. The top roo is Larry Bird, named by my basketball fanatic kid. They donāt mind being held and will sometimes jump on my lap if I throw a chair in the run and sit in there. Our EEs are more friendly, and three of them will fly up to our shoulders every single day, but we got them at just a few days old in the mail rather than at a week-old like the BOs at TSC. I think the age that you get them that can sometimes make a big difference in how chickens act, but of course there are those that can be jerks no matter how much you handle them! (I hand raised an OEG bantam roo that I got as a two day old chick that would attack us EVERY SINGLE TIME we stuck our hands in the egg boxes. He was beautiful, but those spurs hurt! Ouch! ) My BOs act and look like chickens from cartoons. They crack me up.
And yes, one is standing on a camel. We saw it at a second hand store and knew it belonged in our run. My two BO roos are really pretty sweet and quiet for roos. Theyāre crowing, but the sound is much quieter than my neighborās sapphire gem roos. So far it hasnāt become a crowing competition, and I sure hope it doesnāt. Our last BO was a pretty quiet roo too. (I love the sound, but we have a new baby next door!) I also have some EEs and some black Asians which are a sex link cross Iād never heard of until my neighbor gifted me with them because she only wanted two and had to buy four at TSC. Chicken math!
