I’ve hatched chicks many times before, but not ever with my barred rock roo. I’ve got quite the mixture of hens in my backyard flock, including isa browns, rir, EE, and one silkie/EE cross. I’ve hatched two batches of chicks from this bunch recently, getting all black or gray chicks with the little white spot on their heads from barred genes. However, a little one hatched the other day that is pure yellow!! I’m shocked and confused as to how this happened! Anyone know why this little chick looks so different from the rest? Thanks!

That’s most likely, though if one of the EEs has dominant white and doesn’t have a beard then she could also possibly be the parent.
It hatched from a brown egg, similar to what my ISAs lay. I hadn’t realized they have a dominant white gene! Very cool. Thanks for your responses!
