Calling All New Brinsea Owners!!! February Hatch-a-long... PRIZES!!!

One hatched about 30 minutes ago! My 3 year old already has "her" named Queenie! She's really flopping around in there and rolled one of the other pipped eggs over. It's making me kind of worried, but hopefully that chick will be ok!

She is chirping and falling asleep for a few seconds, then flops around some more! She came out of one of the blue/green eggs and is black with green legs.

I now have an additional pip, too. So one hatched and three more pipped. One more green egg and 2 of the brown eggs.

I'll post pics early this afternoon after we wait for some more progress!

Okay, I'm really excited! The only problems I've ever had with my Mini Advance were humidity related. I've kicked myself for not getting the Mini Advance EX, but it was so much more money I couldn't justify it at the time.

I've been trying to figure out a way to put a hygrometer in the 'bator, but as you know, there really isn't any room if you want the eggs to keep turning.

I think I found a low-cost solution to my worries! I purchased a tiny analog hygrometer from Cigarextras.com through Amazon for only $10. It's only 1.4" across and is made of metal with a real glass lens. I did the salt test last night and it's within 1%. I took some clear shipping tape and rolled it into a couple of thin tubes, then used it to stick the hygrometer to the clear plastic dome.

Now I'll know when I'm having humidity problems, and as you can see from the dial, it's a little too high for the regular incubation period.

So, that brings about another question -- how do you LOWER the humidity without getting it too low? I have water in half the reservoir as directed, but if I sop it all up, won't the humidity drop too low?

With my MiniAdvance, I just tip up the side of the dome a couple inches for about 5 seconds, then do it again in an hour if I need to do so. The 'bator recovers temp SO quickly, and since it's not during lockdown, it's okay to vent that humidity.

OK, I'm getting a little antsy now. One chick hatched out this morning at 9am. It's been almost 7 hours now and no one has followed. Little "Queenie" is all fluffy and chirping like crazy, walking all over the other eggs and shaking things up. Should I put her in the brooder or wait for a friend to hatch? Anyone have any advice?
