Calling All New Brinsea Owners!!! February Hatch-a-long... PRIZES!!!

Silver hatch out like chipmunks and whites hatch either yellow or silvery/yellow. The one that hatched is still drying but I think Muggs posted her silver AMS chicks on one of the threads.

Ok this time around I was trying the wicking method of keeping the humidity up...didn't work to well. I had to free three chicks that zipped half way then got stuck. I will revert back to the sponge method for the next hatch. My hatch was also delayed due to a slight fan malfunction at about the 2 week of incubation but I think it is complete. I will pip the rest of the eggs to see what went wrong with the others...having a feeling they were shrink wrapped.

This is what I got...

5/6 BBS Copper Marans one has ? on it because it looked suspicious at lockdown
5/11 LW Ameraucana project
1/3 Silver Ameraucana
0/2 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten AMS

less than 50% bummer....guess that mean I have to hatch more.

The next batch of eggs are resting on my counter. I will set Saturday.

Now Which one should I submit?? BTW not a great photographer...these are the best 2 out of about 50 shots

I had problems with my hatch this time, too. I bought a tiny hygrometer and tried to keep the humidity down, but after my first 3 chicks hatched things went sideways. I had to help a 4th chick after it pipped and was trying to zip. It was shrink wrapped but I followed some great instructions from a thread on BYC and was able to save it. I had one dud egg (it never started to develop). I still have two eggs that I know were "full-term" but haven't done anything and I'm sure they're dead.

I'm going to do an eggtopsy tomorrow. Can anyone tell me how I can determine what caused them to die? Can they shrink wrap before they pip? My last two hatches were 100% and the humidity fluctuated wildly. I don't know what I did wrong this time...

AWW THAT IS A BUMMER KAREN -I use both wicking and 2-3 sponges-humidity never got above 65% until the started to hatch:-(

I got a total of

1 pure lav silkie-mine
1 split lav silkie-mine
5 split LF Am's-CrystalCreek
9 pure Lav AM's- Yvonne
1-BLRW mine

Im ok with that-wish more would have hatched:-(

I have 1 chick left in bator that Im not sure will make it-I will decide to night and then clean out bator. I'm really debating reloading bator so soon again but I do have SLB eggs staring at me so if anything I'm putting those in! Im so glad I threw another auction up for all my extra eggs so I CANT put them in!!! But, If my girls lay like they have been I might HAVE to:-( LOL

My first 3 chicks hatched yesterday and now I have 7 (i think) lots more are pipping and zipping. My 4 year old twins are going bananas!

Still have not opened the bator. I am battling low room humidity (of course!) So in a little while, when the brooder is warm, I will try and run lots of hot water and quickly grab the chicks. Right now they enjoy sleeping on the other eggs.

I have buff orpington, heritage delaware, black australorp and barred rock in there.
Almost every egg has pipped and it is day 21.

I would like to know too if a chick can be shrink wrapped before it pips?
