Calling all Penedesencas Owners/Breeders

Hi Jason. Welcome back.

I may have a friend going to Catalonia in the spring that I'm trying to talk into bringing back eggs.

Penedesenca are from the area of Spain known as Penedes.
Empordanesa are from the area of Spain know as Emporda.
Emporda is the easternmost county of Catalonia. Penedes is along the Mediterranean and about center in Catalonia.
The autonomous region of Spain called Catalonia is where these breeds are from.
Alt de Penedes is a county in Catalonia. The capitol is Villafranca del Penedes. That is the site of the annual Fira del Gall (fair of the rooster). This is the first wine region of Europe. Fira del Gall is a foodie festival held the last weekend before Christmas. The star of the show is the Black Penedesenca rooster, deemed organoleptically unique imparting a flavor to the meat unrivaled in other breeds. People pay the equivalent of $50 for a rooster on the hoof to take home for their Christmas dinner.

yeah I have been watching there Facebook posts. it would be nice to get some out here for sure. I would love to see the Blonde Empordanesa out here as well . we need imports of all 4 Penedesenca varieties as well as White Empordanesa badly

I renewed the website for 2 years . I had to pass on the 70.00 high visibility part though as it already was 270.00 for two years and i have a lot going on so couldn't swing it. the site should still pop up close to the front though just based on the number of penedesenca hits that search

It's ok Guy thanks for the offer maybe next time . I just wish we could get them out there more, I'm low on birds need to get more eggs which I'm trying to so I can set more and build my flock up. It's been busy around here lol not a lot of free time with my remodeling and fence building

Your fences look fabulous.
I've been doing my best to get them out there. I've sent hatching egg all over the country this year.
I'm getting ready to start listing them on E-bay.
I'm about to send eggs to Puerto Rico.

I haven't fully researched it yet but I think it is similar to most states. Postage should be the same. NPIP should be similar. This guy is really psyched to get them.

Any idea why my black penedesenca hen's comb flops over? Is it just something that happens or do I need to change something I am doing?
I have 2 ( 1 pullet that should lay any day, & 1 that has been laying for a couple of months). It is the hen that has been laying that has the flopped over comb.
I thought it was just something that sometimes happens, but I read something recently that said it is due to mismanagement ( but didn't give any indications what).
What do you guys think?

I have had combs get messed up if they did not get enough light.
