I recently discovered that my silkie is a male. However, I have noticed that he doesn't seem to crow everyday but more like every 3rd or 4th day. Is this normal? Is it just because he is young? Will he crow more often as he gets older? Just curious.

How old is he? I have 4 Silkie roos and they crow at different rates. I can say that when they were about 3 months old is when they would crow more frequently. Now that they are almost 6 months, 2 of them crow several times a day.

Ours is right at 3 months. The feedstore owner sexed him as a pullet. So, the first time I heard "her" making this crazy sound I thought "she" must be mimicking my D'Uccle Roos. The next few days I listened intently-but no sounds. I decided it was just one of those weird things. A few days later, there she goes again. The same thing every few days. My other Roos crow all day long and loud. So, I didn't know if diff. breeds do different things or what! I posted on here asking if females can crow and they laughed at me (nicely) that my feedstore guy was a joke. I tried to look for spurs, but am not sure what I am actually looking for or where. His legs are so feather-y!
