Calling all veterans and family members. Allies too.

A Veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to the "United States of America for an amount up to and including my life". That, is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it!

Many have grown up having it all and easy. Personally I think it is something that is hard to fully understand in all its facets because they haven't been there.

As I was looking at my calendar today I realized that some of our non-United States friends might be feeling left out. Remember that our (US) Veterans Day came from Armistice Day which was in remembrance of the end of WWI. There are members of BYC that are citizens of countries that were our allies during WWI. You are welcome to post. They may be members of countries that were not our allies during WWI. You are welcome to post also. Our countries have managed to put past differences away. So citizens of the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and whoever else I missed; if you observe any kind of veterans recognition please tell us about your vets and the family members and the civilian workers that keep the military going.

speckledhen, I just saw your thread. It reminds me of how fleeting life is. When I was on active duty and living in post housing I awakened for some reason in the early morning. Across the street was some activity at the neighbor's house. I had a sense of gloom and found out later that day that two helicopters had collided and all were killed. My neighbor was one of them.

kstaven, it was Remembrance Day on my calendar that reminded me of other countries' observance of the former Armistice Day.

So sad. I often think of that young man I was with just the night before the plane went down. I remember how I heard about a crash on the news, but it didn't register that it was their plane at first. My DH was supposed to be on that mission, but he had been moved to a different job a short time before. We should remember the danger our men are in, even in training. My DH tested munitions at Hill AFB, testing shelf life, etc. He could have died any day he went to work, on just a normal day.

EVERY day should be like tomorrow !!

and again,,, my family THANKS you ALL!
