Calling all veterans and family members. Allies too.

We call it Remembrance Day too. On the Sunday following the 11th Nov. there is a parade in London and the Queen and members of the royal family lay wreaths at the memorial. There is a nationwide collection and everyone wears a red poppy to commemorate those who have fallen. This is because the battle fields of Flanders were covered with poppies in WW1. The millions of pounds collected is used to help ex service men and women. There is a new fund now called 'Help for Heroes' and the money is used to equip and adapt living accommodation for those returning from Afghanistan with severe injuries. These charities are very well respected and supported. My father's family have served under the colours for two hundred years. My grandfather served in both world wars, and my father was at El Alamein, Tobruk and in Burma. Best wishes to all ex service men and women and their families, their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Thank you all that have served, your families, and those that have participated on this thread.

Only those that have served can know the sacrifice our servicemembers give. The rest can only imagine.

A poem written by My grandson.

Freedom isnt Free
By Jacob Murphy

Protection costs a Price,
The Price is sacrifice.

This is why our Veterans Served for us,
Because with them our lives we trust.

They fight for love and for peace,
I hope someday wars will cease.

Our soldiers fight hard so we can be free,
I am glad they fight for me.

While they fight, they pay a fee
So their honor we will see.

My grandfather served in WWII
My father served in Vietnam
My brother is still serving. He's done 4 deployments in Iraq, but right now he's gone back to school for a while and is in the reserves while he's in school. He plans to go back to active duty when he's done with school.

Thank you to everyone who has served. We appreciate the sacrifices you've made.

My DH's truck has poppies in his visor, for years now.

I heard they were going to start selling white poppies as well. White being the symbol of Peace.
So far haven't seen any.

HUGE turnout for Remembrance Day. Some of the old WW2 Vets are still around, saluting the flag with a tear in their eye. Some of the Afghan Vets were there too.
