calling all wild bird feeders!!

Pics
One would think with your suet cake right on the tree like you have it the pileated would jump on it.

Nice pictures!

Well, I'm not saying they've never hit one of the suet cakes, but in the past 20 years neither the wife or I have observed them doing so. Maybe if the suet cakes were at least 20 ft. up the tree? They are very cautious customers - the "seldom seen".

That's interesting, my feeder is less than 8 ft from my window at window height which is about 7-8 ft off the ground, and he sits right on it.

We have a dead elm I left standing for the pileated to eat on. They prefer it and about 30 ft up.

I took out an old camera I had and tried to see if I could get a bird picture on it. Using my IPhone has been a failure.

I got some, I was sitting at the dining room table drinking my morning coffee, I cranked the telephoto lens all the way out and snapped, This is what I got.

The only thing wrong with the pictures is it makes the houses in the background seem too close. They are actually on some and we sold 10 years ago, the closest one is almost 1/2 mile away, the picture makes it look like it is right here.

As you can see it is finally warm here too! The bad thing for you, Is I will be posting pictures like crazy! I luv pictures.

Well, maybe not. I just took about a dozen pictures of nuthatches, woodpeckers and Juncos, but I forgot to put the memory stick in it. so no pictures.......... LOL

duluthralphie, thanks for the shots. Your RBWP seems to have more color, under the eye, below the lower beak line, than our's do (looked through quite few year's worth of shots). One from today, for comparison (did get a hint of the "red belly": And some trouble makers:

Yesterday I watched 3 bluebirds feeding on barberry fruits on bushes along the deck. I also have two golden Pyracantha which were loaded with fruit - even the squirrels feed on them.

I mentioned earlier that the deer started 'using' one of my feeders. Well I couldn't get it high enough to keep them out so I have been bringing it to the deck each night. Every morning now there is a flock of juncos on my porch feeding from this feeder. Didn't take them long to locate it. Yesterday the deer visited at 12:30 and got the feed anyway.

My dogs keep the deer away from the feeders, but they will go into the yard at night to eat acorns.

Just tweety birds today nothing new or exciting, kind of cold and sunny so I have no idea where they all went for dinner.

We have Invisible Fence for the dog, and the deer have figured out exactly how far she can chase them. I have noticed that on bright sunny days feeding is minimal throughout the course of the day. On these days here very early AM or late PM feeding is the norm. Something to do with hawk predation?
