All luck, I had to just point and click my phone at it. The picture was so dark, I had to lighten it several times to get any color at all...
They are so "flighty" any movement in the house scares them away... I love them though, I love their call, their size. They are one of our best birds,, in an area with limited birds.
That is a Pileated Woodpecker. It is rare to see than at a feeder. I see them once or twice a year at the feeder is all. They are normally woods birds. I took down an old dead tree so maybe it thinks I owe it a meal now.
I think they are the largest woodpecker, but I could be full of Poop on that factoid.
I am way too young to remember Woody Woodpecker, or Sky King or Roy Rogers or Howdy Dowdy Time.

I was not sure if we have Woodpeckers here in Australia so I Googled it .. interesting: Woodpeckers can be found in wooded areas all over the world, except in Australia. With the weather we had this weekend, I do not blame them, not sure I wanted to be here myselfHigh temps, high humidity and tropical storms with hail and strong winds![]()
