and look! That mystery canna lily looks like it is about to bloom!

I sent my sister the pic of the canna lily and she said she has 3 mystery cannas that came up in a bed she had recently cleared. There had not been any in the 20 years they owned that house. (They live in VA) Her hubby says someone who works w him at the arboretum "calls them Canna stand em Lillies because they are usually sloppy and pest ridden. " Now that she mentions it, I noticed ours has insect damage in several leaves. However, to me, it's remarkable anyway, and I am very pleased to see it.

I've Never noticed cannas being pest ridden.

We have had some hawk issues. Last week I let the elder chickens free range a few days while we were rebuilding part of the run. They were so happy, then there was a hawk attempt, tho no one was hurt. So they are back in their newly refurbished run 24/7. The hawk has been stalking them tho. I put up an owl decoy which could help, and today I decided to make another coat hanger scarecrow. But this time, I'm also preparing for the BYC Halloween coop decorations contest:

So I gave it a Day of the Dead -ish theme...
the chickens aren't afraid at all, so I don't know about hawks.

Be sure to check out the other Halloween HAL contests as well--I'm sure you all can find at least one to enter:

This is another picture of the same weed.
They are also enjoying this one with the white flowers. I don’t know what it is.

The whole area behind the garage and carport is full of the ragweed (?) and a bit of the white weeds. I’m really glad I didn’t cut or pull it out!

The white flowers are probably ‘late boneset’... it’s in bloom right now

... the other isn’t ragweed, I can’t think of the name of at the moment, but it’s in invasive that is used in Chinese cooking... I think it’s a mint or a nettle of some sort... I have a bunch of it ... the chickens like it 😉

The name will come to me later when I’m trying to remember something else, lol

My silly bees fly don’t use much around the house, there is lots of golden rod and asters in bloom right in front of their hives and they pay no attention to them ... they go off and forage in the fields instead 🙄

On second thought, lol...

Turkey and I just had a stroll and looked at weeds and wildflowers... turkey mostly looks at the ones that contain grasshoppers 😉...

But anyway I noticed that some of the white flowered plants currently in bloom had different leaves... so after a bit of investigation, I determined what I have in bloom here right now is ‘tall boneset’ and ‘white snakeroot’ ...

What I thought was ‘late boneset’, and what you have in your pictures is the snakeroot... maybe ‘late boneset’ hasn’t bloomed yet?

And here’s some asters and goldenrod right in front of one of the hives... the bees are zooming right over them, off to greener pastures I guess 🙄
