It’s 4 above zero now. How are everyone’s birds doing in the cold? I am a bit anxious about the upcoming 2 nights....but I can’t bring them all in.
❄️❄️❄️We got 2 or 3 inches snow so far, very dry powdery snow. It is easily swept out of the way.

Birds are doing ok so far 🤞

they’ve been having friends visiting the coop lately though

Chickens are doing fine, a bit slow to come outside in the morning but other than that they don't seem to mind the cold. On the other hand I'm frozen and tired but Rusty is back running now so I can get more firewood tomorrow.

Okay, good to know! Thanks everyone.
I did bring 2 more chickens inside tonight. The basement is 44º and they seem amazed at the ‘warmth.’ They immediately began eating and drinking, Maybe I’m being more concerned than I should be, but it isn’t going to get above zero for 2 days, they say, and tomorrow night, -10º. So I have 4 inside. I’ve got them in cages with PDZ, it’s working fine so far to keep everyone clean and sweet smelling.View attachment 2530113

I think we’re only supposed to get to -4... but some pretty cold windchills tomorrow through Tuesday morning...

I’m just taking it one day at a time... But have been taking the birds hot water every few hours and making sure they get their bellies full before dark

somebody should have told the daffodils that it was still winter though 🥴

@Sue T just be careful when you decide to move the birds back outside. They won't be acclimated to the extreme cold since they were in the "warm" basement.

My chickens are doing alright, but their eggs are freezing! 2 were frozen and cracked when I went out to get them. A third one made a popping noise and cracked within just a few seconds of my brining it inside. So I had 1 that managed to stay in good shape out of the 4 I collected today.

My chickens have been hanging out in their coop for the last few days, venturing no more than a few feet outside. Between the hawks and the snow outside, they're content to stay in their coop. So I've been spreading hay and tossing out chicken scratch inside once or twice a day.

The 11 week old babies have been staying in their coop pretty much all day every day for over a week now. Since the bigs aren't out free ranging, they seem to enjoy terrorizing the littles if they venture out (the adult coop is right next to the brooder coop).
This morning, when I went to give the chickens fresh water the temps had risen to +1 F.
Babies were doing fine, snuggling on the roost together...
