By 1 pm, the blackbirds saw thru the ruse....I go out over and over, do chores, tempt chickens to come out, and the blackbirds wait In the trees. I thought I had it down to just 5 of them waiting in the Siberian Elms. Then I turned around. At least 2 dozen in the walnut tree, quietly sitting like vultures. They say they can wait me out.

we had two starlings, then I only saw one yesterday and the turkey was chasing it around by the porch for a bit

... this morning there was a dead one in the garage, so doing a little detective work, I got Bess the cat to confess that the turkey had contracted a hit on the starling and that she and George the cat had killed the starling in exchange for $10,000.... but that was before I’d read her the Miranda rights... both cats lawyered up after I read them their rights

Our DD finally enticed the dogs to go walking on the paths. They are very small and don’t like the cold and the snow. But it was up to 25º and sunny and so they went out and scared the birds away. For now.

Uh oh... now we have a dove invasion

I went out to the coops just now, and saw Kippy, our kitty playing w a dead bird, no blackbirds in sight. Between him and the dogs, the blackbirds gave up.
I think we’re okay for now.

Good morning, it’s 10º ! Nice and warm. Our neighbors have cows calving and said they brought several calves in the house, one born that coldest night almost froze. All but one are back with their moms.

Now I will be able to get Purina feeds in Lamar!

Louis and I went outside just as blackbirds began to descend upon us. He LOVES chasing birds. He was undaunted by the snow. A big flock flew in and moved right on. In between Louis’s patrols, his cat partner Kippy has been doing undercover work, springing out at the birds from hiding places.
Here Louis is keeping watch out the window.
