I'm pretty sure she's a old english game bantam hen. She'd been exposed to a rooster but I haven't candled the eggs lately. Been leaving the nest alone in case she goes back to being broody after a 8 hour drive, hoping she hatches them. I've been meaning to find some other bantams just in case so she had friends. but my coop is small, maybe 3-4 chickens. Which means I can't meet the minimum order for the hatchary websites . I'm in CoMo and all I'm seeing for sale are standard roosters, easter egg layers and other big birds. No little banties. :(

pretty excited because my coop (so far) has proven predator-proof. She lasted the night and was waiting for me to let her out this morning :D . This is good news because where I live the trash gets raided by coons nightly. So I was nervous last night about my little hen.

Not sure where you are in MO but a long drive out to rural KS. My chicks will be here this week. I'm freezing gallon jugs of water as I collect them to help cool down the coop and for them to snuggle up to in the hot of August and Sept. I have a freezer with not much in it at the moment. A big bowl of water she can climb into and get her feet wet, from what I have read it helps cool chickens off. Sort of like people cool your feet and hands off and it makes a huge difference.

The pieces for my siding are all cut and painted. Dang hot out there this afternoon in the sun to get out there this afternoon to put them up. Would love to have a few days off work right now to work on the coop in the mornings by the time it cools off I'm in bed as 4 am comes early.

I just looked at the weather app for my part of Missouri (Jefferson County) and the forecast is for 100 on Thursday, 101 on Friday and 102 on Saturday and those are before the heat index is figured in  I didn't realize that today was the COOL day of the week. Took my grandson peach picking at Eckert's today. He had never been before. He'll be 4 in November.

That sounds adorable, and thanks for the warning! I should freeze some more icecubes for my hen tomorrow. She loves those..

YUP you picked the best day for picking peaches. So fun to do that. 4 yo's are a blast.

Chicks were supposedly mailed yesterday but usps isn't showing anything except a shipping label so far. Hope they do OK with the heat, they are shipped from Lebanon.

UPDATE; Had a call from the post office on my way to work. Chicks are here so they will spend the day @ the post office until I get off work.

Well my 4 chicks arrived ordered 2 EE's 1 austraulorp, and a barred rock so 2 more came along for the ride!! No idea who is what and hoping they are all hens, can't have roosters in town. No hints on the packing slip re: breeds etc of the extras. All seem healthy, active, noisy, eating and after poking beaks in the water drinking. The 2 cuddled one has a brown face, I will try to get a better photo in the next day or so. Ordered from Chickens for Backyards. Was definitely not planning on 6 chickens. MMMMM

I hope your work day goes by quickly so you can go pick up your new chicks!!
Can't wait to see some pictures!
Don't know why this didn't post earlier when I first wrote it.

I have heard that some companies send extra, but I've always bought mine local so I haven't had that happen to me. I'm sure you can post on a "WHAT BREED IS THIS" thread and find someone that can give you a good idea about what you got.

Nothing really local here except in the early spring. I found a few on Craig's but not sexed. With roo restrictions I didn't want to have to re-home them, now I have 2 that I have no idea what they are. I have sent emails to see if I can find out, but of course too late or early to have a response yet. They are doing great. Tinier than the first batch due to shipping times.

Sorry to read this Jeria. Hope your new chickies are doing well (assuming you have them by now).

not sure I like this new BYC format. I miss my daily thread emails.

So so stressed and so sad. Caught by a neighbor to chit chat in the front yard. Dogs in the backyard, chicks in the fenced raised bed. Somehow Bosty mix jumped the fence or something, haven't figured it out yet and killed all 4 of my chicks, she was laying inside the fence. She had not paid much attention to them previously. I'm a basically a country kid so can just adapt and punt but hate seeing animals killed. I have 4 more ordered, same breeds.
