calling any one from missouri

hi, I also have not been on for a year or so. I am in Cabool... about 65 miles east of Springfield. Has anyone else noticed all the turkey stories. Laying and hatching. Is anyone else in this part of the country got turkey eggs yet. Geese have been laying for a couple of months.

Yep - allready had a turkey hen hatch a batch a couple weeks ago. Have another hen laying and getting serious about brooding now. Total of 7 hens so more to come.

The muscovy finially broke loose and have 4 nests I've found with one gal brooding for a week all ready. With 15 girls going to be knee deep in duckies soon.

The guineas have been scoping out nesting spots.

Had EE's hatch out under a BO hen and now BA in same pen is going broody. BA roo in their so glad to hatch out straight BA's and BO cross.

Lost the goose eggs with that real hard freeze this winter so hoping they'll nest again.

Spring has Sprung!!!!!!

wow.. what do you do with all the babies? sell? I have a banty hen setting on 7 eggs and they are not hers, as I am getting out of the little chicken business.lol. I went to barred rock and RIR. but the little gal is the best mom ever so she will stay. My turkey is baffleing me tho. she has nevr laid with any concistency in the past years but usally will find an egg here and there. Going to keep everyone locked up for a few days and see if she is laying.

What breed of turkey? Mine are all heritage breeds and this is thier first year laying. The first nested at the base of a tree with good bramble cover around. The second has finially gotten seriously broody in a 50 gal barrel. You can pick up metal or plastic drums - cut a half moon out so they can pop over the top but keep the babies in (and the dern dogs out). If you find eggs here and there with only one hen, collect them up in the spot you want her to nest. Seems like it takes them a bit for the drill to make sense to them and then they get serious about hunkering down.

Yep, selling eating eggs, hatching eggs, babies and some adults (mostly fall culling and males for meat). Some of my egg customers are wanting to reserve TG dinners. Any birds are sold on the hoof - otherwise can run afoul of FDA laws. Being so close to the base there's a better market for organic/naturally produced and more "exotic" foods like duck, goat and such.

I am looking for feed prices North of Kansas City. Someone on another thread wrote about grain elevators and maybe getting cheaper whole grains from there. Any ideas? Any prices on whole flock feed? Please exchange ideas. Let me know if you have a grain elevator nearby and the prices.

I know. I think the SHE part is wishful thinking. He is the sweetest thing and a pet for my 5 yr old. Only had HeShe for a month but the girls are really attached. I am no looking into decrowing. We are right smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood.

I haven't heard that horrid little noise this morning. I guess he is practicing but it wasn't pretty. lol
