calling any one from missouri

Just curious. I have five, five week old chicks and four turkey poults. They have been kept inside so far and have been at room temp with no heat for the last week. Would you guys put them outside with no available heat or give them a few more weeks? I am near joplin and it is supposed to dip into the 50s overnight this week.

I live up north in Hannibal. My 4/29 chicks were put out into a pen overnight without supplemental heating a week or so ago. They had two or three days of being out from sun up until sun down, to help get used to being outside (or maybe for me to get the courage to leave them out.). However there are 14 of them, so maybe they generated enough collective heat. They are all still doing fine and have been out there 24/7 since that night. This was my first batch of chickens, so I am no expert. I can only tell you what my experience was.

If they are fully feathered then they will be fine. Go ahead and put them outside. I would start them in the morning so they can see & get use to their new environment before dark.

I'm in Macon county clean on the other side of the state but howdy! And......

Actually, believe it or not, Smithville is probably closer to us than Cedar Hill. Smithville is about 156 on RT 36 and Cedar Hill is about 196 miles if we were to go via Columbia. Macon. Cedar Hill is closer to La Plata in size though I do believe.

We fled IL about 5 years ago and have never regretted it one bit. We LOVE Missouri.
