36 here and raining. Anyone further north or east getting snow or ice? I hope not, be safe driving....

Sue -- that baby is adorable and does resemble a dinosaur!

Heck, we had a light snow this morning, but it was completely gone by early afternoon. Still taking the birds out a couple of times a day. The youngsters had a good time eating the snow for a bit. Haven't watched the news yet, but I think we're supposed to get quite a bit of rain sometime soon. What happened to the warm up we were going to get this week? lol

It was sunny and got up to 55 yesterday. We went on errands, and when we returned I noticed our little Cochin rooster, Carl, w blood all over his neck feathers. He had a wound on his shoulder, maybe courtesy of one of the 2 mean hens, and now the little D'Uccle pullet was following him around picking at it, drinking his blood like a little vampire. I feared that all the pullets, who adore him, were participating in enlarging his wound. So I opened the gate and let them all out, the first free range time for the 7 younger ones. Everyone immediately left Carl alone, and ran off to to forage and explore, and he did a surprisingly good job of cleaning his own feathers. At bedtime I picked him up off the roost and my DH carefully parted his feathers and put blu-kote on the wound which was already healing. I set him back on the roost and he settled down back to sleep without a peep.
Meanwhile the little Spitzhaubens are getting scruffy and gawky looking. They are funny little characters.

Sue, what a cute chick.

Yesterday morning was a icky mix of cold rain, a few snow flakes and some ice. By 10 the sun was out and it was in the 50's in the afternoon. This morning 30 but it is supposed to be very windy and 60's today and tomorrow before rain starts on Monday (much needed and then turning to freezing stuff on Tuesday. I am so ready for spring.

My roo needs to get outside and play. Wish Steven would come to get him and move him to his nice big run. Might see if I can somehow block the hole in a dog crate (dog bent and broke the wires) so he can't get out and at least let him peck around in the dirt and enjoy the sun. Of course take the bottom tray out. I need to do some clean up and mix up their litter and add more--would be nice to get him out of my way. The hens could roam around the yard some-- Roo isn't easy to catch.
