Veronica is not feeling well, her comb has dark tips and has drooped over a bit. Last night she did not get up on the roost and this morning she went under the coop and is just sitting in the corner. Not sure where to start. I put her in a cage by herself with a bowl of mash. She looks ok just doesn't want to get up and move around.

I don't know much about illnesses/conditions. There are so many...if you start a thread on emergencies/diseases, you may get some help with her. Good luck!

Moonshine has 3 Appenzeller Spitzhauben babies so far. Last egg will be a day behind...I put a dish of mash in there. Mama can eat it without getting off the egg, and she was showing the bitties too....

You could probably sell them at one of the area poultry swaps. Lamar this Sunday pm, Joplin first Sat of month, Neosho, 2nd Sat. Have you ever been to any of these? Joplin's is really big, the others small. There are probably others as well....

Ty for that info, unfortunately I work most Saturdays and Sundays plus social anxiety keeps me from exploring events like that. If I can't find them a home before they start fighting each other i may have to try neosho, it's not too far

Neosho would be low key and less stressful then. Not to mention closer. The 2 times I was there, anyway, which was 1 1/2 yrs ago, there were less than 6 sellers. Southside Feed.

Well I finally got Veronica to start taking water from an oral syringe a few drops at a time. Did that a few times and when I checked her a few minutes ago she was drinking from the water bowl! Gonna keep her in sick bay for the night for sure so I can see if she starts to eat. She pooped sometime this afternoon and it's still runny.

@SueT any new photos of the babies?

That's good...
let's see if I haven't posted this on this thread--she taught them to eat and to drink from a nipple bottle. Less than 24 hours old, acting like big chicks. Still waiting on the 4th egg, which I stuck under her 1 1/2 days later. Maybe tomorrow.

Oh so you know the 4th is going to be a bit behind, I was wondering about that.

Chickens are so amazing even without a parent they can figure it out pretty quick. But I bet it's much better to have a hen show you the ropes early.
