The building is over 5,000 square feet.
The area we will convert into living quarters is more square footage than the entire downstairs of my house.
It's all concrete structure. . concrete floors. .metal roof.
This will accommodate the hubbys retirement plans of being able to work from home some day.
And we will have 5 acres to cover with birds :lau

Today was my day to watch the 5 year old Grandson and to drive my son around to his appointments. Just got home at 7 PM. Haven't been out to the garden or to the chickens ( other than to let them out this morning).
We had off and on showers all day!
I think tomorrow is supposed to start our extreme temperatures.
@shawluvsbirds is this a one room school house or a more modern school house?

ETA: I see I just needed to be patient! Your pictures came through!
It used to have more rooms built into it. . it was only used as a school for about 5 years I think, then they built the school in town.
It was a feed store for many years after that.
It's been used for storage for probably the last 10 years or so.

The area we will live in is where the cafeteria was. There are 4 more rooms all along the back. .two bathrooms a small classroom and another room where the coal stove was/is.
That will be our laundry/furnace/utility room.
We will have to build a wall to portion off the shop area from living area. . leaving one bathroom on the end in the shop space.
But. .I am married to a contractor so that is not the worst part.
Getting all the windows and doors figured out will be the main challenge.
Plumbing and electricity.. Not sure how bad that will be just yet. I have been told over and over that place has the deepest well that has been drilled in this area. . so I'm hoping to get that going.
I want less bills to pay.

this is the ceiling in all the rooms.. I just luv them!

I ain't got nuthin to share. Things are burning up here already.
I usually put out more annuals than I did this year. . I just didn't feel like it this time.
I don't think I shared this here but we actually just bought some property outside of town recently and we plan on selling our place here and moving eventually.
It will be a while. . we did not buy a house.
We bought a school house. :lau we might be insane.

Congrats!... the school house isn’t crazy... the fixer upper part is crazy!

I said never again after the first one, and here we are fixin up this one... we’re slow learners I guess!

It looks like a fun space... is that the one that had a barn owl living in it?
