I look at it from the POV that you aren't a chicken owner until you've had a load dropped on you by one of your birds.

Last week I walked under one of the roosts just when one of my Silver Duck Wing bantam roosters let a load fly. It hit the top rim of my glasses, rolled down my glasses, hit my cheek, proceeded down my neck and wound up in my bra.

On top of being juicy, it stank. Now I'm a retired nurse. It takes a lot to make me gag but I was glad I hadn't eaten before this happened. I came inside washed my face, took a shower, washed my face again.

Yep, I'm a true chicken owner.

FINALLY, a dry day, several dry days in a row! After I go to Walmart, I'm letting Mama Moonshine take her babies outside for the first time. They are 5 days old. Last year, she took babies outdoors at 2-3 days, but it has been pouring here every day.
So what would I rather do, watch the news on TV or watch chickens? :) That's an easy one.

I checked the strawberry raised beds this morning and the plants that were not supposed to be in the seed pack provided me with a hand full of strawberries. They have a really strong strawberry flavor and are sweet. They put out a zillion runners so have to watch them close.

Yum. How do you keep the chickens from eating them, are they fenced?

My chickens live in Chicken Fort Knox! A 5' chain link fence with hot wires on the outside for daytime activities.

If they get extra light until sunrise they are confined to the run. The auto door opens but they can't get out of the run until I let them out.

The raised beds with the two strawberries is on the side of the house outside Chicken Fort Knox. Here is a photo from November 2019.
